  2. How do you adjust the pressure?

    1. Pressure can also be adjusted by reducing the engine RPM. I contacted "Cat" and they said it would not hurt the pump.

    2. The black knob on the pressure valves but don't crank it down to the bottom because eventually it will stick and blow the bypass.

    3. The black knob on the pump is the unloader valve. You can adjust the pressure by turning that knob. You can also adjust your pressure down by using a nozzle with a larger size orifice.

  3. for cold weather storage, I have heard you should run some antifreeze through the pressure washer to keep the pump and or engine from freezing.

    Is this a true statement or what are Northern's recommendations regarding this.

    1. YES.....they make legit antifreeze for this purpose. I have 3 Honda engines setting in my shed with less than 20 hours on them because I bought cheap pressure washers and never winterized them. The pumps will freeze and separate in every place they can. They will look fine next spring until you get a bath from 20 different directions when you turn the hose on. Replacing a 300 dollar pump on a 350 dollar pressure washer is pointless. When you step up to a quality unit with a pump that cost 800+ you want to take care of it and it will last forever.

    3. For cold weather storage we do recommend running antifreeze through the system here are the steps to follow: 1. Drain the water from the high pressure hose and spray gun by depressing the trigger on the spray gun until all water drains out. 2. Disconnect the plumbing that connects to the pump outlet.3. Obtain the materials you will need: 12" piece of garden hose or equivalent hose, a funnel, and approximately 6 oz. of RV antifreeze. 4. Disconnect the spark plug. Attach the 12" garden hose piece with the funnel to the pump inlet. 5. Pour RV antifreeze into the funnel, and then pull the recoil a few times until antifreeze comes out of the pump outlet.   4. How do you change the oil on this machine?

    1. The pump has an oil drain plug on the back cover.

    2. The engine on this machine has drain plugs on the mounting plate that can be used to drain the oil. One is located on the side near the oil fill plug and the other is on the opposite side of the mounting plate.

  6. What is the pressure range on this unit?

    The unit is marketed as a 4,000 psi pressure washer, I'm guessing that is the max pressure it can produce. What is the range of pressures it can still operate? What is the minimum pressure and still function?

    1. I put a high pressure gauge on the line on my machine and I was able to dial it down to around 2700-2800 psi.

    2. This pressure washer has a PSI range between 500 and 4,000. The minimum PSI of 500 is approximate. If you need to reduce the PSI to the minimum, we recommend using a gauge. Click the link below to view a compatible gauge.

  7. Can u purchase electric start for the engine on this unit?

  8. Will this pressure washer pull water out of a lake through a filter? If not can you reccomend one that will.

    1. There are not triplex plunger pumps on the market that have inlet suction. A booster pump is needed to pull water from a lake into the PW pump. Cat Pump recommends 2X the flow on a booster pump. Example: 3.5 gpm Cat Pump means a 7 gpm booster. The booster psi does not need to exceed 40 psi, but will work with less.

    2. This unit needs to have a pressurized water supply. It is not capable of pulling water from a water source. At this time we do not offer a pressure washer that is capable of pulling water from a water source.

  9. Does this model have the idle down feature?

    1. No but the pressure bypass relieves the pressure on the pump and thermal bypass prevents overheating.
