Product Summary

The NorthStar 3-Point Boomless Broadcast and Spot Sprayer delivers versatile spraying performance for agricultural, pasture, food plot and property maintenance applications. Designed to mount directly to a Category 1 tractor 3-point hitch, this sprayer features a NorthStar NSQ Series demand-style diaphragm pump that delivers up to 2.2 GPM and 70 PSI. The 55-gallon polyethylene tank supports extended spraying between refills, while the included broadcast nozzle provides up to 192in. of spray coverage for efficient large-area application. For targeted treatment, the adjustable spray gun quickly changes from a straight stream to a hollow cone pattern. Additional features such as a clear-bowl inline filter, remote on/off switch, integrated hose storage and lance clips help improve convenience, reliability and ease of operation.

  1. Does the tank have an agitator? Is there a liquid return from the pump to the tank?

    1. The tank does not have an agitator. You do not need one since the tractor will be a little bumpy spraying and it is enough movement to keep liquid contents agitated.

    2. NO agitator. Really do not need one. My fields are not smooth, so the solution in the tank is constantly swirling. No The tubing goes directly from the tank to a shut off valve to the rear sprayer.

    3. The NorthStar 3-Pt Sprayer does not include an agitator. Being the sprayer is to be used with liquid form pesticides only, an agitator is not necessary. A liquid return line from the pump is not included.

  2. How is it powered? PTO or other?

    1. It's an electric pump. You have to buy wire to modify the length of the provided wiring. Wasn't hard.

    1. No agitator but the movement generated by the tractor keeps everything sloshing around and mixed.

  4. what type of shut off switch comes with the sprayer. If there is a shiut off switch, how longare the cables?

    1. The wire/switch assembly is about 8 feet long. The switch is located about 2 feet from the alligator clips used to connect to your tractor battery or power source. If your tractor battery or power source is not near the operator seat, you may need to modify the wire/switch assembly or carry an auxiliary battery.

  5. sprayer pump size

    I can't find any reviews on this sprayer but it seems to me that 2.2 gpm isn't enough for this sprayer. Can I get one with a larger pump?

    1. Considering the sprayer has a 14 foot broadcast, and a 55 gallon tank, its perfectly suited as it is. Anything more than 2.2GPM is going to mean you need to drive faster to prevent saturation of the crop.
      I find a good even coverage is obtained with the pump supplied.

    2. This is the only 3-PT sprayer that we carry. We do offer a 55 gallon tow-behind sprayer that uses a roller pump which delivers 7 gallons per minute and 150 PSI maximum pressure. See my recommendation below.

    3. The pump works well, well enough to suck in the tank when the vent is blocked. It takes me about 30 minutes to spray about three acres.

  6. How long is the 12volt wiring harness? My JD tractors battery is on the front of tractor.

    1. Plenty of length with our JD, no alteration needed!

  7. what keeps the broadcast sprayer from spraying when using the spot sprayer since the are no valves (except main tank valve)

    1. There is a valve under the sprayer to switch from broadcast to spot spray. Just turn on pump. When pressure is up it will shut off automatically. Start spraying and pump turns back on. Pump will turn on each time you spray and will stay on as long as you are spraying.

    2. This unit features a manual shut off valve for the broadcast sprayer that can be shut off prior to using the spot sprayer.

  8. What is the weight when full

    What does it weigh when it is full

    1. A gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs so if you have it full your looking at just over 450lbs in just fluid weight so you would be safe to say with a herbicide or fertilizer and full you have a total weight including the actually equipment weight of 550 lbs.

  9. Will this work on a John Deere 2305 tractor (utility tractor)

    Tires are shorter so the lift will not be as high as a normal tractor tire. Tire sizes are 18x8.5-10 R4 and 18 x 8.5-10 R3. Will this spray 14 ft. if not elevated as high?

    1. This sprayer is designed for a category 1 tractor (compact tractor).
      The sprayer is a 3PT hook up, so you can adjust the height (the angle) by tightening the top link on your 3pt. Tightening (shortening) the top link will tilt the sprayer back towards the drivers seat and make the spray throw further, tilting it down has the opposite effect.
      I use this on a compact Massey Ferguson MF1532 just fine.

    2. This NorthStar sprayer when mounted 36 inches above the ground will spray 14 feet wide at maximum, if it is mounted lower the spray width will decrease.

  10. Can I run this sprayer off of a 12 volt deep cycle battery seperate from vehicle pulling it?

    Also, can the broadcast nozzle in the back be adjusted from 14' to a narrower pattern?

    1. The pump draws a maximum of 7.5 amps. If your battery will provide that much current then this will work just fine.

    2. Yes, this sprayer can be run by a separate battery. The broadcast nozzle on this unit is not adjustable for a narrower spray pattern.
