Does the motor have a higher duty cycle if lifting a light load?
I would like to know if this hoist can be run at a higher duty cycle if it is lifting a very light load (30lbs). For example, could it be run for a few hours with a lifting time of about 5 seconds and 10 seconds rest?
-
SkyClimber· 11 years ago
Yes, duty cycle actually tells your the motor will heat up and kick out the thermal safety switch at or about 20% of ten minutes while lifting a maximum load. So, the amount of work the hoist does generates heat, the lighter the load the lower the heat put out by the motor windings. Also, it the ambient temperature is high or low that will affect the length of time you can operate within the motors thermal safety range also.

This electric hoist has a 20% duty cycle regardless of the weight of the load(max capacities of 220 lbs./single line and 440 lbs./double line).

can the hoist be mounted upside down - paying off upward?
-
Intimnasc· 11 years ago
I would say no as you would have no way of winding the cable correctly and crossing cables causes fraying under load.

This hoist is designed for lifting. It is not designed to be mounted upside down. Doing so would void the warranty and could create a dangerous situation.

hoist use for dumbwaiter?
I was thinking about using this hoist for a possible dumbwaiter. I'm a bit concerned about the duty cycle. I can only it for 2 minutes, then have to wait 10 minutes before I can use it again? Is that right? Please advise. Thank you.
1 answer-
NITExpert11· 10 years ago
This electric hoist has a 20% duty cycle. It can be used for 2 minutes straight then it requires 8 minutes of rest before it can be used again.

Can the hoist be rotatated 90° when mounted?
If so, does it matter what side is facing down? Based on the photo, it appears that there is a hole on the side that the cable can be fed through. Is that the case? Thanks.
1 answer-
NITExpert36· 10 years ago
This hoist should only be mounted as pictured and not rotated 90 degrees. The hole in the frame is for attaching the bottom hook when using a snatch block to double the line capacity.

Can I mount an Electric hoist upside down?
I would like to mount an electric hoist upside down as I don't have room above the lifting area to mount it. It would be pulling from a pulley 4 foot higher than itself to lift items on the other side of a wall. I'm thinking when pulling from a pulley above the steel rope will still wind on the drum as usual.
1 answer-
NITExpert36· 10 years ago
This hoist is not designed for and should not be used in an upside down position.

where to hang?
Is it suitable to hang on the garage ceiling?
What are other options to hanging?1 answer-
NITExpert13· 11 years ago
This hoist is designed to be attached to a beam or pipe (up to 1 7/8") and be securely held in place by both included hangers. The beam or steel pipe must be capable of carrying several times the weight of the hoist and its designated maximum capacity. If in doubt, consult a registered engineer and building code.
