Questions

1–10 of 19 Questions
Sort by:

  1. Regarding the referenced solar panel, doesn't it need a regulator so it doesn't overcharge the battery?

    1. This solar panel battery maintainer kit has a low enough output that a charge controller (regulator) isn't required. Solar panels/chargers/maintainers rated at 10 watts or more require a charge controller

      Helpful?

    2. Apparently not. The owner's manual states that this panel serves as a trickle charger, and 2.0W or 133ma is relatively low wattage/current. Now if you were using say a 100W panel, yes, you would definitely need a solar charge controller.

      Helpful?

    3. I have it connected directly to the battery and in 7 months no issues.

      Helpful?

  2. weatherproof?

is this unit designed for outdoor use?

    1. This solar panel battery maintainer kit is designed for outdoor use. It's weather resistant, but not weatherproof.

      Helpful?

    2. This panel has a weather-resistant aluminum housing/frame. I set it on the dash of our '98 Ford F-150 inside the cab. The owner's manual says it can be used for RVs and boats, so I imagine it can be exposed to the weather. However, you don't want moisture to corrode any of the components where metal is exposed to the elements.

      Helpful?

    3. It has been in continuous use on top of an RV for most of the past 7 months with no evidence of damage from the elements. North Texas, so no snow accumulation but lots of sun and rain.

      Helpful?

  3. Does the battery need to be fully charged before connecting or will it charge the battery over time ?

    1. This maintainer kit is designed to be a trickle charger. The battery does not need to be fully charged.

      Helpful?

    2. It does not need to be fully charged as it will slowly top off the battery. I do not believe it would produce enough to charge a completely dead battery.

      Helpful?

  4. does it have battery clips and lighter plug

    1. This kit comes with the battery clips and a 12 volt plug.

      Helpful?

    2. Yes, it contains both a set of battery clips and a power port plug.

      Helpful?

  5. How long is the cord

How long is the cord on the cigarette lighter adapter cord?

    1. The overall length of the 12V DC cord and adapter is 19" long.

      Helpful?

    2. Long enough to reach from shed roof to battery

      Helpful?

  6. Would it be ok to have this panel outside and hooked to my lead acid riding mower battery for the 6 months it is not in use?

    1 answer

    1. These solar panels are designed as trickle chargers to prevent rechargeable 12 Volt batteries from discharging and/or damaging themselves when left in storage for long periods of time. Please reference the product manual listed below the product summary for proper storage and maintenance instructions.

      Helpful?

  7. willl it charge my battery while on boat while electronics are in use

    1 answer

    1. The charger will not be able to keep up if electronics are in use.

      Helpful?

  8. I have two 12V batteries in a series. Will this charger be ok to use while batteries are in a series?

    1 answer

    1. This will work if the batteries are connected in parallel to form a 12V battery bank. The proper way is to connect to the negative terminal on battery number 1 and connect to the positive terminal on the other.

      Helpful?

  9. How long or the cords that hooks up to battery.

    1 answer

    1. The length of the cord is 15 feet.

      Helpful?

  10. I had a similar one from another store. It had a tiny blue light that would let you know it was working. This one doesn't have any indicator. How do I know it's working?

    1 answer

    1. You would need to put a volt meter on it to check the voltage of the panel. It should be putting out 18-22 volts, if working.
