The Milwaukee 1-5/8in. Magnetic Drill delivers the fastest drilling and strongest hold on 1/4in. steel in its class. It is 13 Amp motor delivers the fastest drilling w/ annular cutters or twist drill bits. Equipped with a 2-speed gear box the tool can be adjusted tool-free between annular cutters at 475 RPM and twist drill bits at 730 RPM. The permanent magnet base operates without electricity for continuous magnetic hold even during power interruption. Activating partial magnet mode with a 1/4 turn of the magnet nob allows for faster, easier hole alignment. This magnet technology makes the Milwaukee 1-5/8in. Magnetic Drill better for vertical and overhead drilling applications than traditional electromagnetic models.

    1. This product does not feature an automatic throttle. The drill press would have a permanent magnetic base. See page 5 of the product manual on our website for operating instructions.

  2. With the drill chuck adapter installed what is maximum length of drill bit you can change out without repositioning the drill unit?

    1. This is a compact drill. The maximum stroke length is 5 3/4". The motor can not be raised to accommodate for a longer bit size.

  3. Will the permanent magnet in this drill lose some of it's strength over time? When the magnet knob is turned to the off position, does it de-magnetize the base area so that the metal shavings and chips can be easily brushed off?

    1. The permanent magnet could lose its strength over time; however, there are too many factors to determine the length of time. The base will de-magnetize when the magnet knob is turned to the OFF position.

  4. What size pipe will this stick too?

    1. The drill will magnetically attach to 1/4" or thicker ferrous stock. Do not use stock less than 1/4" thick. It will no hold onto stainless steel.

  5. will the 3/4" weldon take a 19.5mm bit or will i need an adaptor

    1. A 19.5 mm bit will fit the chuck. The stroke length is 5.75".

  7. How thin of sheet metal can you use with good hold.

    On a horizontal surface will the magnet hold on to 18 gauge steel to cut a 3/8'' hole?

    1. The thinnest metal this will work with and hold down well is 1/4 inch.

  8. Does the drill have reverse, variable speed and bits?

    Are the two speeds described variable? Is there a reverse? Can the unit handle regular drill bits as well as annular bits? Why is it none of the photographs show the control panel on the unit?

    1. The two speed function would not be variable speed. This Magnetic Drill is non-reversible. It comes with a quick change chuck to use standard drill bits and annular bits. You may click on the owner's manual on our Website to view the control panel.
