  6. A little dimension help please

    I'm putting together a CAD model for a crank down trailer design and one thing I could use is the distance from the mounting face of the rim on the hub to the "inside" face of the tire so that I can plan for tire clearance. Make sense?

  8. What is the difference between ST205/75D15 and ST205/75R15?

    I have R15 now and was wondering if there would be any drawbacks to getting the D15, which is much cheaper. I do carry a lot of weight on my single-axle trailer, usually about 2000-4000 pounds.

    1. R15s are radial ply tires and D15s are bias ply tires. Listed below better explains the differences.

      Radial Ply Construction:
      - Most popular in today's market. Mostly used in the production of automotive, truck, large off road, trailer, aircraft, and racing tires.

      -Built using full nylon plies in the tire body with steel, kevlar, or fiberglass belts. Runs at a 90 degree angle from the tire tread center line.

      -Runs cooler.

      -Longer tread life.

      -Wider footprint on the road.

      Bias Ply construction:
      -Used in the production of both high speed trailer tires and slow speed lawn garden tires.

      -Tire cords run 30-45 degrees from the direction of travel. From wheel bead to wheel beat the cross hatch construction provides stronger/tougher sidewalls.

      -Generally lower priced.
