Will I be able to clean stovepipe with this installed?
Does this device interfere with the inside diameter of the stove pipe? In other words, will I still be able to use my stove pipe brush (same diameter as inside stove pipe) all the way from the top down to the stove? Or do the heat reclaimers reduce the inside diameter of my stove pipe to the parallel spaces between heat collectors, without a means of cleaning the soot that builds up there?

The unit has a built in cleaner for scraping the tubes. You can actually clean the stove pipe from above without removing the unit but you must work carefully so as not to damage the tubes.

The heat reclaimer will need to be removed when cleaning the stove pipe due to the exchanger tubes in the reclaimer.

The Magic Heat Reclaimer, when properly installed, will not affect drafting of a properly installed stove. Always check with local codes and ordinances to be sure you are in compliance.

6" flue vs 8" flue
I measured my pipe diameter on the boiler and it measured 7", would I use a 6" or 8" Magic Heat Reclaimer? or am I out of luck and can not use either unless having to customize an adapter fitting.
-
Anonymous· 13 years ago
You will have to use an 8" with a 8"x7" reducer on the top and bottom of the heat reclaimer. If you can't find 8"x7" reducers they could be custom made in a shop. Using a 6" heat reclaimer would reduce the normal draft.

The Magic Heat Reclaimer for wood, oil, or coal stove comes in two flue sizes only. The six inch model and the 8 inch model. A seven inch flue would not fit with either unit.

I have a free standing coal stove (manually fed)..I want to direct some heat into the adjacent room..is this product what I'm looking for to do this?
The coal stove is placed between two rooms, but the room with the vaulted ceiling (obviously) doesn't feel as warm as the other room..my only other idea is to put a floor fan near the stove to help move more warm air into the room. Thanks for any help!
-

Heat rises, so most of the heat may be rising to the ceiling, in the room with the vaulted ceiling, so it feels colder at the lower level. Put a ceiling fan in the vaulted ceiling room to circulate the heat to a lower level.

The Magic Heat Reclaimer for wood, oil, or coal stoves is designed to recapture heat which is otherwise lost through the flue pipe. The unit fits on the flue pipe and blows warm air into the room. This might indeed help heat the second room with the vaulted ceiling but just how much it will help can only be verified through actually installing the unit and testing. Your idea of using a floor fan near the stove to help move more warm air into the second room could help also.

To install this reclaimer, is the flue simply cut, and a section taken out and replaced with the unit?
Would also like to know if single wall, or double wall flue pipe makes a difference?
-
ProductExpert10· 16 years ago
It is not recommended that you simply cut the pipe and remove the section. The reclaimer needs at least 18" of clearance from the stove and added to the existing or new pipe.

i have a dbl wall flue pipe cause it runs 20' next to stair well and keeping the heat off the wood and where the kids could touch it was a concern.

If the stove is on the main floor can the Magic Heat be installed on the second floor
-

heat is what makes this product work so i guess the question would be how much heat are you loosing up your stove pipe. I would guess yes it may take a little while to start cause it has to reach temp but i say once it reaches temp you should be ok. it does not effect the flow up your pipe. Just reclaims the lost heat.

For proper function, you want to install the reclaimer 18" from the stove.

Can I use a single wall adapter to Double wall pipe
Can I use a single wall adapter pipe to go from my double wall 6" pipe to the 8" Magic Heat Reclaimer?
1 answer-
ProductExpert31· 13 years ago
If you are going from a 6 inch pipe to an 8 inch adapter to the heat reclaimer then back to the 6 inch pipe that configuration will work with this unit, although the Magic Heat Reclaimer is designed for single wall pipe.

what size do I need for an 8.5" diameter pipe
I measured the flue pipe diameter and it is about 8.5" in diameter, what size of Magic Heat Reclaimer will I need?
What would be the best way (ex. tool) to cut the flue pipe?
1 answer-
ProductExpert41· 14 years ago
The best way to cut flue pipe is with a compound miter saw. At Northern we only sell Magic Heat Reclaimers that fit 6" or 8" diameter pipes.
