Do these fit dimensional lumber (~1.5" x 3.5")
Some reviews say yes, some say it needs 2" x4". It appears there may have been a design change. I wanted to make sure I could get a product that works with the current pressure treated lumber that is available.

Yes, I found out that when you buy the pressure treated 2x4’s, that they are a little snug going into the brackets, but I think that’s good, because the pressure treated lumber as it sits out and dries it will still be a very tight fit I have found out from experience with my brackets that I purchased, I also had 1 treated 2x4 that was about one month old, and it fit into bracket perfect. So if they are very tight going in when the pressure-treated lumber is new, then you know they will still be a good tight fit and not get loose and wobbly as time goes on, I would recommend buying these for a simple easy wood rack !!!

I used pressure treated 2x4s but had to trim the ends of the long cross pieces to fit

I found it a tight fit to use a treated outdoor nominal 2X4 but was able to hammer even these in. A standard indoor 2X4 (actual dimension 1.5 X 3.5 inches) fits a little loosely but adequately. I do not believe wood of actual dimension 2 inches by 4 inches would fit into the brackets I received.

I can't get an exact measurement because i already have it together but i would say just over a 1/16, like 3/32.
Very sturdy though, i used 12' treated for the length and 6' tall.
Loaded with wood, they haven't flexed or distorted at all.Helpful?

Without pulling out a micrometer, too late as mine is assembled, I would guess them to be 1/16-ish thick...maybe as high as 3/32nds. My rack is 6' long by 5' high, filled with hardwoods and the vertical 2X4's aren't even stressed yet so I know there's little stress on the brackets.
If you're worried about going longer/higher and stressing the brackets, you could always connect the vertical 2X4's across the top and make a "box". Assuming your rack is level, this will share the load/stress and your 2X4 strength would now be the weak link.

What is the recommended maximum length of the horizontal 2x4's before the lumber starts to stress under the weight of the wood?
I have bought and used before with a 7 ft length and a 6 ft height with a 2x4 across the top to keep the vertical 2x4's from leaning out. I am looking at a 10 ft length for the next one.
-
IrontonExpert29· 3 years ago
There is no recommended max length for the 2 x 4's that can be used with this.

I used 5 foot upright with 10 foot horizontal bracing on a 10 foot long base. I also use 15 inch brace on the ends.
This seems to give it all the strength that it needs to hold
everything in place.
hope his helps.Helpful?
