    Is this tool strong enough to be used as an occasional grinder?

      I have used it with the rubber sanding backing pad, and it worked well. With course paper to scuff up the front rotors on my Expedition when I last did the brakes.
      I could not use this the way I use my grinder. I use my grinder for cutting and some surface grinding. I cannot think of a way to safely use a cutting disk on this.
      If you are wanting to sand rust off of something, it will do that with the right paper, or scuff up you rotor surfaces for brakes. But if you really need to be "grinding" some metal, a cheap grinder will do the job safely, in much shorter time. It will all depend on what jobs you want it to do.
