    1. Yes, or you can buy a separate lawnmower battery and recharge it when necessary.

  2. Any problems using this in a trailer pulled by a riding lawn mower?

    1. The only problem would be the length of the power cord, may have to be extended, to reach the battery on your towing unit !!!

    3. The sprayer comes with 8 feet electrical wire with clamps on the end .The on and off switch is about a foot back from where it hooks to the battery
      So you will have to measure where your tank will sit on the cart up to your battery .

    5. This spot sprayer can be used in a pull-behind trailer as long as the sprayer's 8' long wire harness will reach the battery of the lawn mower.

  3. How well does this sprayer do on an incline or a hill with only a little liquid in the tank?

    I am concerned the liquid will slosh to one side and no spray will be pulled up by the pump. I'm not talking about a major hillside, just a decent slope where my fruit trees are.

    1. As long as you have plenty of spray in the tank you are OK no problem but as in gets lower and the pick up is on the high side you will have problems. Keep the pickup side, right side, on the low side will help !!!

    2. The pickup tube is located pretty much dead center of the tank. On an angle, it will start to suck air with only a small amount left, but really by that point you should be thinking of refilling it anyway.

    3. It will work until the pump pickup tube becomes uncovered, so the question really is how far down will it pump. I put a piece of 2 X 4 under one end of the tank for this problem and the tank pumps almost completely dry.

    4. The pump will continue to pick up liquid from the tank as long as the pick-up tube is in the liquid. Spraying on an incline may require adding liquid more frequently.

  4. does the pump turn off after it reaches 40 psi?

    1. yes if you are spraying

    2. Yes, it is a demand pump. When you release the spray handle after spraying. the pump runs until it once again reaches operating pressure, then shuts off, then turns on again when you re-commence spraying.

    3. Yes it does, as long as there is liquid in the line. Great feature.

    4. This spot sprayer includes a 40 PSI pump. It will turn off when it reaches 40 PSI.

  5. Can you use a stand alone 12 volt battery, i.e. a deep cycle marine battery with this unit? They say you can't do that with a northern sprayer.

    1. I am doing just that. I bought an inexpensive yard tractor battery to use with this and mounted all of it on a carrier that attaches to the rear of my tractor. After spraying for about 2 hours, I attached a trickle charger to the battery. I charged for less than 6 minutes before the battery was full again. For my purposes, this setup is ideal.

    2. I used a new 12v mower battery that I charged overnight using auto trickle charger (~13.2v). Put 6-gallons in sprayer & loaded sprayer & battery in wheel barrow for 600ft gravel driveway @ vacation cabin to kill weeds. Took about 20 minutes to spray & worked excellent. When sprayer empty, I immediately removed & saw 12.7v, but charged with 2 auto trickle chargers while I mixed & loaded sprayer that took 10 minutes. Battery was back above 13v. Repeated this and battery never went below about 12.6v for the 3-hour duration of cycles. Way cool and did not have to run my ATV the 3 hours.

  6. WITH THE LENGHT OF THE HOSE & THE LENGHT OF THE SPRAY PATTERN WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM DISTANCE THIS UNIT WOULD SPRAY HORIZONTALLY ?

    2. The hose is 12 feet in length. The stream spray pattern has a maximum horizontal spray distance of 20 feet.

  7. Is the screw mounting pattern on the pump such that you could could replace it with other Northstar pumps?

    1. It is not recommended to replace the original pump with a different pump. Making modifications to this unit would void the warranty. If the Ironton pump needs to be replaced, the replacement is our part #790659. It can be ordered online through our sister company Jack's Small Engines.     2. Due to the design of this sprayer, this is the only pump that can be used on this sprayer. The replacement pump would need to be ordered through our parts department at 1.800.221.0516.

  8. Are there alternate nozzle tips available for this product, specifically a fan/flat spray pattern nozzle?

    1. See the North Star web site, the were very helpful when I wanted to extend the width of my fold up boom sprayer coverage.

    2. This ATV spot sprayer includes a nozzle that adjusts from stream to cone/round pattern. The nozzle doesn't spray in a flat pattern. Nozzles with different/flat spray patterns are not available for the sprayer.

  9. Can you attach a spray boom to this?

    I have some areas that are larger than I would like to use a spot sprayer for. Can you attach a boom to this item instead of using the sprayer.

    1. Buy the broadcast nozzle. Sprays about 12' with no booms to get tangled up

  10. spot sprayer vs tree sprayer???

    I want an ATV mounted sprayer for my fruit trees, Will a "spot" sprayer work for that or do I have to go to the more expensive "tree" sprayer. Some Spot sprayer reviews sound like they are being used for trees.

    1. This Ironton ATV Spot Sprayer can be used as a tree sprayer, however the max height this unit can spray up to is 12'. Please see our item #2681852 for a tree sprayer that can reach 30' vertically.

    2. This Ironton ATV Spot Sprayer can be used as a tree sprayer as well, the max height this unit can spray up to is 12 feet. For anything taller then 12 feet in height i would recommend using one of the Northstar tree sprayers, see below for different options.
