Just fired mine up today for the first time to test it. It "walks" on a level concrete floor. You should secure it. It is also very tippy. I would recommend bolting it down.

I left mine on the shippping pallet for several days as I was working on the floor around it sealing walls and floors. It needs to be bolted down to prevent the possibility of tippig. It dosen't need to lean very far befor it will go over.

can this compressor be ran on 110 volts?
-
steve177· 14 years ago
This compressor will not run on 110 volts a/c. It will not operate the electical motor to power the compessor pump. Any attempt to wire it up to operate with 110 volts will result in an electical fire. The circuit breakers for the outlet you intent to use will have to be set up to handle the correct current load and the wire gauge will have to be rated for the same purpose.

No when ordering this compressor it's a 230 or 240 volt only. There is no way to change this. If your needing a 110 or 120 volt compressor you need to find one that is prewired that way or has the ability to be converted over. Hope this helps

1) can i extend warranty 2) does this unit have more then 1 connect 3) does this unit require oil
2) looking for unit with more then one connect so i can connect to sandblaster and air tools at the same time with different pressure?
-
blackpowder· 14 years ago
1) use the start up kit and you can extend the warranty on the pump to 2 years 2)Unit has one connect but it is easy to put on a tee or a cross to give multiple connects 3) unit does require oil. If you want to use different pressures you will need to get a pressure regulator for one outlet.

no single output but you can T-OFF and have many point of use drop line. So yes you can have multiple output if you set it up properly and use them at the same time. (load sharing)

SS3L3 - What is the 'cut-in' pressure?
As the pressure in the tank drops at what pressure does the motor start driving the pump, again?

At approximately 90-95 # for cut in.

Does it come with a 230 plug, if so whch one?
-
blackpowder· 15 years ago
Does not come with a plug, is actually recommended to hard wire in.
Helpful?
-
HigherRPM· 15 years ago
Mine did not come with a plug and I wired it directly into my breaker box (which was conviently right next to where I set the compressor).

-
ProductExpert6· 15 years ago
The compressor does not come with a plug. These need to be hardwired and requires a 30 amp breaker and #12 wire and you should have a strong 230 volt service.

What reducers are used for air tools
I see the air outlet fitting is a 1/2NPT. What reducer/coupler is recommended for using air tools?
-
Avi8tor857· 13 years ago
Usually with an air compressor like this you will install hard lines. What I did was used a hose with 1/2NPT fittings to go to my filter/dryer which connected directly to the regulator then using black pipe (gas pipe) I made a manifold with valves and T's all 1/2 NPT. One goes to a hose for non oiled one goes to an oiler and then to the "air tool" hose. and then a drain at the bottom. Where I went to a hose I used again a reducer from the 1/2 NPT to the appropriate size. All fittings are just from the hardware store.

ok to store in unheated shed for winter
i read that its not made to operate under 32 degrees. is it ok to store it in an unheated shed? i live in the northeast.
-
heavyChevy· 14 years ago
If you take precautions, like I do, it has worked for me for several years no problems in Michigan. I have mine in a large garage that normally is not heated. I have an auto-drain kit installed on the tank to keep any moisture from accumulating when running. I keep my oil changed at least twice a year or more. If the temps. are going to get really cold I always manualy open the valve on the bottom of the tank as well. I always make sure to get some heat up around the compressor motor until I know it is safe to operate the next day after a frigid night. I have done this for years, and never ran into any problems. I'm not in any way going pay for your air compressor if you have a problem, but I'm telling you how I do it.

What is the maximum distance from the electrical panel?
The 30A 220v feed to my workshop is a 10/2 cable from a 60A subpanel located 30 feet away. Is this workable with a separate safety switch?
-
celica· 14 years ago
You can go 100 feet away safely. As long as you can supply enough power and proper cable gauge. The voltage will drop a little but still very workable.
I have placed mine about 90 feet away using 230volt using doble pole 20A on 12 gauge wire.
(3 wires total including ground).Helpful?
-
ProductExpert6· 14 years ago
This would be workable.. It is recommended for this unit to have a #10 cable at 51-100 feet. You will need to have a dedicated 30 amp breaker for this unit.

Can this compressor only be hard wired? How about with a short extension cord?
I would like to power this compressor (or one similar) with a 10' extension cord into a 220v outlet plug. I realize that people don't usually do this, but would it be okay? Would it damage the machine? Thank you
-
celica· 14 years ago
no, i would not use extension cord. Use doubel pole 20A (two 115 volt slot = 230volt) from the panel direct connect to the compressor. You may use a kill switch and then flex to the compressor. 2 hot wires and 1 ground. SAFTY FIRST !!!!

ProductExpert12· 15 years ago
This type of air compressor can only be hard wired and not used with an extension cord as it could result in motor failure.
