  1. can you cut off excess pick up wire

    1. You will need to wrap the wire around the spark plug wire a number of times. After you have reached this amount, then you may remove the excess wire. It is recommended to add additional wraps on the wire until the slack has been taken up. The key is to make sure to have the minimum of wraps around the spark plug wire for the item to properly read the RPM.

    1. This tachometer has a max tach of 16,000 RPM.

  4. Does this tack work with a 3 cyl. diesel engine. How large of a flat surface does this item require. Dig or analogue, does it make a difference

    1. This hour meter with tachometer could be used with a diesel engine. The measurements are 2 1/4" L x 1 29/64" H x 5/8" D. The meter would be digital and would be best. You may want to look at item #160585 that is specifically listed for diesel engines. The measurements on it are 2.13" L x 1.49" H x .550" D.

  5. Will the Honda Surface Mount Hour Meter with Tachometer — Model# 08174-ZL8-023HE work with my Honda EU2200iTAG1? Can you mount it on a bracket inside door panel instead of mounting on the outside?

    1. The tachometer would work with the Honda EU2200iTAG and EU2200oTAG1 inverter generators. You would need to work around to thread the cord out from the spark plug, There is not an option to mount on the inside.

    1. It would determine the hours when the engine is running and is determined by the revolutions that the engine is turning.

  7. How does this connect to the motor? I'm used to the ones that wrap a wire around the spark plug cable.

    1. This item will work in the same manner where you wrap the wire around the spark plug cable.
