what is the flow rate of this pump at 100 verticle feet? will it vary with horizontal distance?
-
ProductExpert40· 10 years ago
The flow rate at 100 vertical feet is about 5 gallons per minute. There would be just a slight difference with a horizontal flow.
Helpful?
-
HondaSpecialist· 10 years ago
At 100 feet of total lift, you'll get a bit more than 5 gallons per minute. While there is a modest amount of friction/heat generated over long horizontal runs, it not an issue or factor. -Robert@Honda

Since pump is self-priming, why does it have a priming tank?
"Honda Water Pump - 1in. Ports, 2220 GPH, 25cc Honda GX25 Engine 4-Stroke Engine, Model# WX10K1A"

ProductExpert19· 11 years ago
All centrifugal pumps requires an initial prime. You have to pour water into the the prime chamber, and this allows the water to start moving though the suction hose.

-
HondaSpecialist· 11 years ago
Any centrifugal pump requires an initial priming; water is poured in the the prime chamber, and this provides the initial pressure differential to get the water moving though the suction hose. If you shut off the pump, and leave the hose undisturbed, you can restart the engine without having to prime it again. -Robert@Honda

if I put a nozzle on the end of the discharge, will it damage the pump to have it running while no water is coming out?
-
HondaSpecialist· 11 years ago
It is okay to block flow from the pump with a nozzle for short periods of time when the pump is running. Do not block flow for extended periods of time or the pump will overheat and the bearings will fail. -Robert@Honda
Helpful?
-
ProductExpert40· 11 years ago
Shutting off the discharge output while the pump is running could lead to over-heating resulting in damage to the pump.

If I use this pump in a stream and put a smaller screen filter on, will it damage the pump?
-
HondaSpecialist· 11 years ago
No, using a smaller strainer won't damage anything, but it could reduce the ability of the pump to prime and operate properly. The strainer included with the pump has 1/16" holes, so the pump is rated to allow solids up to 1/16" to pass through safely. A smaller strainer (or screen filter) could clog the suction line in some cases. If you wish to filter out solids smaller than 1/16" inch, might want to consider a filter on the discharge side of the pump, not the suction side.-Robert@Honda
Helpful?
-
ProductExpert40· 11 years ago
When using the included strainer or a smaller strainer, care should be exercised to ensure the strainer does not become completely clogged with debris because running the pump dry or nearly dry could result in damage to the pump.

I’m a little confused on pumping distance.
I just tested this pump and was able to pump water 400 feet with this pump. So why is this pump say it will only pump 118 feet? For this test I was using a garden hose.
-
Marcusp156· 10 years ago
It will pump with a maximum of 118' change in elevation. The horizontal distance matters but isn't as important since the weight of the water itself doesn't work against the pump as much. Your 400' must be largely horizontal instead of vertical.
Helpful?
-
ProductExpert6· 11 years ago
The listed 118 feet is the maximum height the pump can push water. It can push water horizontally at a much larger distance.
