  1. Can the Honda 6500 run the whole house?

    1. To determine what size generator is needed for your home, you would need the wattage requirement of each appliance you intend to use with the generator. Please view our generator buyers guide online for assistance. You can also contact a local electrician for assistance in the determining the wattage requirements of your home.

    2. In theory, no. A typical home has a 200 amp service. 120v x 200 = 24,000 watts. Some homes only have a 100 amp (12,000 watts). However, buy shutting off circuits not used and alternate circuits this could technically suffice to provide essential power to the whole home. If you have electric appliances like stove, hot water heater, heat, central air....... you'll need to pick and choose what is running. I have a gas stove, oil furnace and hot water heater with central air and have no issues.

  2. can this generator connect to an electrical panel?

    1. You would need to connect a transfer switch to your electrical panel and a power inlet box to the outside of the home. You could then connect the generator with a generator power cord to the generator and power inlet box. See our item #63261 for a kit that includes the transfer switch, power inlet box and a cord. We recommend professional installation.

    1. The Honda EM6500S (EM6500SXK2AN) runs on gasoline only and does not come from Honda with propane or dual-fuel capability built in.

  5. Will it shut down automatically if it’s running out of gasoline?

    1. This generator is not equipped with a low fuel indicator. The fuel level will need to be monitored by the user. The generator will stop if it does run out of fuel.

    1. The generator AC amperage output at 6500 watt surge is 54.2 amps at 120 volt and 27.1 amps at 240 volt. The generator AC amperage output at 5500 watt rated is 45.8 amps at 120 volt and 22.9 amps at 240 volt.

  7. Does the unit include the outlet attachment cord?

    1. The generator would not include the outlet cord. See our item #5723739 for a generator plug adapter. If you want to hook it up to a transfer switch, see item #63261 for the kit that includes the transfer switch, cord and the outdoor power inlet box.

  9. Does this generator have a fuel tank drain hose to empty the gas tank into gas can when finished using?? I have this on my other Northern Generator that I've had for approximately 15 years. That works great! I also like the plastic gas tank!

    1. There is a fuel line from the tank to the carburetor. If comfortable, the user could disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor, turn the fuel cock to the ON position, open the fuel cap and allow the gas to drain out that way.
