This pump could not be used with hydraulic oil. The viscosity is too heavy and would overload the motor and burn it out. A better choice would be to look at a diaphragm pump.

Dear Schneider, the FR700VNT is not a good choice for hydraulic oil. This pump is a rotary vane pump, and the maximum viscosity is diesel fuel. Using this pump with hydraulic oil will load the motor, and create higher amps and reduced flow rates. Due to the higher amps, the motor will not run for long before the internal thermal protector shuts the motor off. Depending on what you are trying to do, using a diaphragm pump is a better option.

Is this pump E-85 compatible?
-
ProductExpert19· 11 years ago
This pump is not compatible with E-85 as is. There is a kit available from the manufacturer, KIT700BD, that will give you the seals you need to convert the pump for E-85.

Thanks for your question on E-85 with the FR700VNT pump.
This pump, off the shelf, is not compatible with E-85. There is a kit that you will need to get in order to convert the pump for E-85. The part number for this kit is KIT700BD. This will give you the seals you need to convert the pump for E-85.
A quick note when using E-85, your pump will last longer if you use it at least 3 times per week with E-85. If the pump sits for long periods of time, the Ethanol in the E-85 will pull in water, which will cause your pump to rust and lock up.
Thanks again for your question!

Where would you install the water separator/ filter?
Do you recommend and sell separator/filters for diesel?

As long as you stay away from BioDiesel, these pumps and all filters available from Northern will handle diesel. A good solution would be to mount TWO of the goldenrod filters to divide the flow (the elements are only rated for 4 GPM), so two in parallel would get you up to 8 GPM. I have used this for years for thousands of gallons. The big "plus" for Goldenrod filter systems is that there is plenty of room for water and sediment to collect in the bottom of the oversized bowl, plus the condition of the filter element is readily visible without opening anything.
WARNING: I'd highly discourage using "water block" filters for the Goldenrod bowls, even though water will be blocked, another surprise awaits you: ALL FUEL FLOW WILL ALSO BE BLOCKED when a even a small amount of water is introduced! It is better to empty tank and vehicle filter canisters often to dispose of water, rather than trying to remove it with filters. Water Block filters should only be used where they can filter very dry fuel in the first place, and you want a guarantee that no water whatsoever gets through. Most vehicles handle water quite well as long as it is frequently drained (some are automatic; some are manual with an operator warning light).Helpful?

A water block filer could be installed on this pump between the hose and the pump outlet. We do not offer a water block filter that will handle the 20 gallon per minute output of this pump.

Pump Model #FR700VNT is not compatible with biodiesel. May we suggest the pump shown below as this is the biodiesel version of the pump.
