    1. The base is 4" wide and 5" long

  2. Is 7/32" the desired rope diameter for this? Can I use a wider rope?

    1. you can use a larger rope/cable but it will reduce the length the spool will hold.

    1. the handle removes easily. Actually it unscrews to allow removal of the cable from the spool

    2. The Dutton-Lainson Winch has a handle that can be removed by loosening the end nut and then pulling the handle and brake off together. Handle cannot be removed when under load.

    In the specs section, it says wire rope is not included, but it says 2" strap. Usually, when neither is included, both will say "Not Included"

    1. The length of the mounting bolt pattern ranges from 2-45/64 to 3-5/8 inches to the one oblong mounting hole from the center of the two front mounting holes. The bolt hole width is 2-1/8 inches apart on center for the two front holes measured from the center of the rear hole.

  8. I have this winch in an 800lb capacity. It works well, but cranks rather hard. Would stepping up to a 1200lb capacity winch crank more easily?

    1. Under full load capacity the winches would crank with the same amount of force. If you pull 800 pounds with a 1200 pound winch it will be easier to crank.

  9. Can it be used in a hoist application?

    I've heard the gearing is different in winches versus hoists. Just wondering what the real difference is? Can I use this as a hoist, or is there a hand hoist other then the chain hoists or the lever action ones?
