There is no specific maximum width, as the kayaks sit at an angle on the rack and the set includes adjustable straps.
This carrier can hold one or two kayaks with a combined weight of up to 150 lbs. It is important to confirm the vehicle’s roof load capacity, which must be greater than the combined weight of the kayak rack (10.75 lbs) and the kayak(s). Single-person recreational kayaks can weigh up to about 70 lbs, while tandem kayaks can weigh around 90 lbs.
For added stability, we recommend using additional tie-down straps at the front and rear of the vehicle, especially if the kayak is over 12 ft long or on the heavier side.
