The SaltDogg TGSUVPROA 4.4 Cubic Foot Tailgate Spreader features vertical auger assist and an optional vibrator kit that make it a more robust version of the popular TGSUV1B. With a compact size and hitch-mount design, it's a great material spreader solution for an SUV or a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton truck. The spreader features a corrosion-resistant 4.4 cubic foot poly hopper. Its hitch mount can fold away for easy tailgate access and is compatible with 2in. Class 4 receivers. Its 9in. poly spinner can cast #1 free flowing rock salt up to 30ft. A 1/2 HP, 12V motor is directly wired and is controlled by an included variable speed in-cab controller.

    1. I run a 50 mile plow route with spreader attached to rear, however i run all the salt out of spreader before traveling on highway.

  2. Can i stop salt from flowing out before I use?

    I am sure there is a way, but I cannot figure it out. If i start dumping in bags of salt, I have to do it in a hurry as the salt starts coming out at a steady pace. I figure if I put in 4 50#lb bags or salt, I lose about 20 lbs on the driveway before I can get into my truck and start spreading. Is there an adjustment for this?

    1. I reduced the opening with a piece of 1/4 inch plexiglass and it did wonders for dumping 50 pounds of salt in about 50 feet.

    2. I have the same problem. Manufacturer's tech support recommended part #3016233 - fine materials auger. I will post follow up once operational.

    3. are you running rock salt or are you running Calcium Chloride? I have not had this issue at all. If you are running rock salt then it sounds like you might have something missing on the auger or something is broken? Check you manual or if you don't have it go on line to northern tool, pull up the spreader you have and look at the manual they provide.

    3. mine came with it, but before you buy call up northern tool and ask them. they will tell you what all it comes with. the only thing mine did not come with was long enough wire, I had to buy extra wire.

    3. The SaltDogg Tailgate Spreader is designed to be installed into a standard 2 inch receiver opening which would have to be on any vehicle you intend to use. Gravel is not recommended.

  5. how long is the cord for the controller

    1. Mine was like 15ft long I think, if you are running it in a standard truck it will be long enough. For me it was not but I had to route my wiring differently then most would have to do, do to the truck that I have with the accessories that I have on my truck

    2. There is two cords. One that goes from the controller to the battery. It's about 10 feet long. The other goes from the controller to the spreader. it's about 20 feet long. I have a four door ford long bed super duty. I ran mine through the frame rail and by the time I tucked it in everywhere it wasn't long enough to go to the fire wall and then double back to the controller. I had to find the opening on the back of the cab and then ran it inside and back along the rocker panels inside. I was about a foot short of reaching the controller the first way. Had about 18 inches left over the second way.

    3. The wire to battery is 96" long. The wires to rear of vehicle is 222" long The controller would be mounted under dash.

    1. As long as truck has a 2 inch reciever to mount spreader on.

  7. Can the broadcast be contolled for 8-12', otherwise, I'm throwing it into the woods.

      A little of both. You can adjust the side plate forwards and back to increase or decrease the area. Also the speed control helps control how far it goes. I have mine 1/2 in the middle and on setting 1 for speed and it was about 15 feet wide.
      How do you get the controls into your truck.

      comes with a complete wiring harness kit and install instructions on how to wire it in. Takes about 4 hours to do.
      I have the hitch and lights/brakes plug.
      It's a different harness that comes with the kit.

      How hard is it to get on and off the truck for one guy? Empty it's no problem. It took me and one guy to install it and put it together the first time. Just easier. but one guy could do it. Once it's together though you can un do it yourself no problem. it weighs about 80 lbs empty.

    2. The side panel at the spreader-wheel was initially set during assembly, and then the speed is used. I use a speed of "3" on the controller for a 12 foot wide driveway.
      I mounted the controlled below the dash, with the electric from battery going through a 1/2 inch hole drilled in firewall. I coil the power/control cable in the back seat of extended cab and only run it through the side window when in use.
      Very easy to move by myself since only 70 lbs., I have used a floor jack to support the weight and move it myself, when the hopper had salt left in it.

    3. The spread pattern is controlled by the speed adjustment of the spreader motor from inside the vehicle. The controls and power for this device would need to be wired into your vehicle. It may be possible to attach this spreader to the vehicle on your own depending on your strength and ability. Keep in mind that it weighs approximately 75 lbs without salt.

    1. If there isn’t any salt in it , its easy to take on and off

    2. This SaltDogg heavy-duty professional tailgate salt spreader is easily removed from the vehicle by removing the hitch pin and disconnecting the spreader motor plug from the mating truck plug.
