Is it safe to parallel charge 2 batteries long term? I want to charge/maintain my 2 jet ski batteries over the winter.

Manual has diagram showing parallel wiring of two 12vt batteries and where to connect charger. Also shows how to wire up multiple 6vt batteries as well. I have three 12vt lead-acid batteries in parallel charging/maintaining on my shop bench with no issues.

JohnMc· 12 years ago
Yes, you can do this, but it's best to start with two batteries that are already charged. If one is low and the other charged, the charged one will dump into the low one at very high current until they are equalized.

Yes, similar batteries like that are no problem, there should be a diagram on the packaging to show you, but as you said, just parrallell them and you can plug it in and leave it for the winter with no worries.

That is exactly what we routinely do. We connect batteries on small tractors, big tractors, and miscellaneous equipment in the same shed with small jumpers that we have made just for that purpose. One maintainer can handle multiple batteries all through the off-season. Those little units are designed to do just that.

Will this maintain two (2) 6 volt golf cart batteries?
An article in a RV magazine recommended using 6 volt
golf cart batteries for my 5th wheel camper.
I installed them hooked in series.
I'd like to leave the batteries in the camper this winter.
Will this maintain them.-

Yes it will. I used 3 of them to maintain the 6 batteries in my golf cart. I just isolated each bank.

According to VDC Electronics, as long as the batteries are fully charged before the really cold weather sets in the battery minder will maintain you batteries just fine.Helpful?

JimMountainGuy· 16 years ago
Yes, as long as they are hooked up in series and they are about the same age and used about the same. In other words a 10 year old barely working battery can't be in series with a new battery.

Yes, this will maintain them. First each battery must be fully charged, then wire them back to series.

Can I use another brand ring terminal?
I have a quick-connect ring terminal that came with a Schumaker trickle charger. Can I use this ring terminal on this Battery Minder Plus?

You can use it as long as the cord connection is the same polarity as the BatteryMinder, and the two prong plugs are the same.

This BatteryMINDer Plus will charge any 12 volt lead acid battery (or two 6 volt batteries connected in series). This charger can charge one 12 volt battery at a time by itself. If paired with model 210-RT, BatteryMINDer Y-Connector and Ring Terminal Assembly (available through the manufacturer), the BatteryMINDer Plus can safely charge two 12 volt batteries simultaneously.

yes, you would need one for each if you don't plan on removing the battery from the vehicle. If you do remove the batteries, you can charge/maintain up to 4 12v batteries connected in parallel, just make sure all are fully charged before connecting them together.

A lithium ion battery should not be charged with this charger. lithium ion batteries have specialized charging and discharging electronic systems. This charger outputs a special pulsed waveform that desulfates lead acid batteries. I believe these pulses would be very harmful to the electronics in the lithium ion battery.

I am using mine in a metal building barn with no heat. I think that if the battery will survive the charger certainly will. The intermittent electrical pulse will help both to be happier in the cold. There is nothing on the charger that can freeze.

-
Nodnreh· 9 years ago
As long as you follow directions, keep it away from the battery fumes, and plug it into a safe cord or electrical circuit it should be safe if it hasn't been dropped or damaged. But be aware if exposed to extreme cold for long period you may run a risk of your batteries freezing and bursting.

-
OpaS· 9 years ago
I don't think there is a risk of fire from this product, that said the battery itself may not be stable below zero, especially if old and won't hold a charge.
