Trailer Bearings
Located deep inside a trailer wheel assembly is a very important factor in how your trailer will tow — wheel bearings. These trailer wheel bearings are designed to help provide a smooth ride for a trailer, helping to reduce friction that can slow wheel rotation and help to prevent unnecessary rubbing, grinding and wear of your wheel parts. Having fresh, properly lubricated and operational trailer bearings can help make the entire towing experience easier.
But no matter how well you keep trailer bearings maintained, eventually they are bound to wear out and need replacements. Trailer wheel bearings are specific to the spindle that they are installed on, and the spindle is related to the axle on your trailer. One of the easiest ways to determine which bearings you will need on your trailer axle is to take the hub off and check the existing bearings, taking care to look for the numbers stamped right into the side of the bearings. Sometimes the bearing numbers are so worn, corroded or caked with dirt and grime that they can’t be read. In these cases, the next best solution is to find out the inner diameter measurement of the bearing. That inner diameter of a bearing is a great place to start identifying the bearing.
Northern Tool + Equipment offers a superior selection of inner and outer trailer bearing sizes plus bearing races, seal kits, bearing protector covers, dust caps and many other wheel and bearing accessories to help you get what you need to keep your trailer rolling smoothly.
