This NorthStar Self-Priming Semi-Trash Water Pump has a quiet and dependable 163cc Honda GX160 engine and silicon carbide mechanical seals that resist corrosion and wear and heat better than a standard seal. The long-lasting high-end silicon carbide seals that are specially suited for heavy-duty applications such as pumping contaminated and abrasive fluids. FCD45 cast iron impeller and volute reduce vibration and wear on the mechanical seal and engine, allowing them to last longer for semi-trash operations.

  1. Are the inlet / outlet port threaded?

    1. The inlet and outlet fittings are 2" NPT. I put quick connect fittings on our pump.

    2. Horse power is not an issue with this pump as it will pump water for long distances through 2" hoses as long as the hoses are open ended. This is not a pressure pump but a volume pump.

    3. Yes, this pump does have an adjustable throttle. While you can run at lower throttle, you would want to run at full throttle for maximum performance.

  4. should i use regular unleaded gas or premium?

    Also when priming the pump prior to start up, does the suction hose need to be completely filled with water or do you just have to pour a small amount of water into the priming port?

    1. as long as there is some water in the pump housing and the suction hose is fully submerged, it will self prime and start pumping after a little while

    2. Either one should be fine. The alcohol in the fuel is more important to look for. I have been told it dries out carb seal and gaskets over the winter time.

    3. This semi-trash pump's engine will run off regular unleaded gas. When priming the pump, the suction hose will need to be completely filled.

    1. Yes it is a trash pump so it can.

    2. This pump will work with muddy water so long as solids do not exceed 5/8". It may be a good idea to run clear water through the unit once the job is done avoid debris buildup.

  6. Is the 42 psi max at 0 foot head, or at 98 foot head or somewhere in between?

    Just trying to figure out the pressure output so I can estimate the size of a distribution network.

    1. The max PSI rating is going to be right at the pump. This pump is designed to deliver 10,010 GPH, through a 2" hose. Providing too much back pressure may cause damage to the pump.

    2. zero head. it dead heads at 98 foot and the flow decreases exponentially as you add head.

  7. Can the pump be primed and lift the water if the suction hose is not completely submerged? I am wanting to pump out a buried gray water tank.

    1. yes I primed the pump and drew the water at least 10' straight up before it reached the pump

    2. This semi-trash pump features a max suction lift of 23'. It can lift that distance if primed and the suction hose end is submerged. The entire suction hose doesn't need to be submerged.

  8. What is the procedure for adjusting the discharge fitting to the side?

    1. Already done it. Just unbolt the neck and turn it 90deg.

    2. The discharge fitting on the Semi-Trash pump can be adjusted by unbolting the fours bolt, then adjusting the fitting to the side and then rebolting. We would suggest that the discharge fitting would be set to the left, as the muffler is on the right and this could cause problems.

  9. Can the discharge port be attached for side discharge instead of in the same direction as the suction intake?

    Suction and discharge ports pointing the same direction requires unnecessary bends in the hoses to direct water away from the intake source. Unnecessary bends reduce flow and compromise pumping efficiency.

  10. How can I hook up a garden hose?

    I would like to pump water out of my pond to water my grass. How do I hook up a garden hose to it and a sprinkler to the other end of the garden hose?

    1. A garden hose may be too restrictive for the 2" discharge. Consider using an old 2" fire hose or configure multiple garden hoses out of PVC connection parts. The key is not to overly restrict the discharge capacity.

    2. This NorthStar semi-trash pump is not approved for use with garden hose, reducing this pump from 2 inch hose to garden hose will over time damage the pump and void the warranty.
