I put it together myself. It lasted 3 years…well worth the money. A bad storm /wind took it to the neighbors house lol

what is the wind load on something like this?

The wind bends the hollow frame and tears the tarps. We use them for shade covers but have to replace them often.

This ShelterLogic product is not an engineered buildings therefore they cannot be wind rated. Properly anchoring the shelter is critical to wind resistance. If high winds or strong storms are predicted, it can be dismantled and stored.

Because Shelterlogic products are not engineered buildings they can not be wind rated. Anchoring the shelter securely is critical to wind resistance. If extremely high winds or storms are predicted the structure can be dismantled and stored

Can it withstand snow?
How much weight will it support?
-
PapaTom· 15 years ago
Although this canopy is fairly sturdy I would not recommend it for snow load. In Texas here I don't have to worry about that and the most weight I've had on it is maybe 5 gallons of water from rain, no problem with that.

I've had up to eight inches of wet snow on it. Where I live, that's as much as it has ever seen. It was no problem, but I cleared it off within a few days.

The package says no. It did some but we get to much to go all winter.
In the North part of the stat I did see one up year round.Helpful?

The product CAN NOT be snow load rated. Proper anchoring of your structure minimizes the impact from snow. Keeping snow off the roof area is strongly recommended.

Setup time
About how long did it take you to setup this canopy and with how many people? I would like to get this for camping in the back of my truck with my dog to avoid using a tent (he will dig through bottom of tent): but if its hard setup for one person that may not be worth it...

Can you get extensions to raise the height?
-
gruenequeen· 9 years ago
I bought slightly larger diameter poles 10' long, cut them in half, drilled a ½" through-hole 4" down from one end. I then pounded the non holed end into the ground a few feet to get the sidewalls a minimum 8' high. I set each leg pole to level with all the others, and drilled through the leg (which is inside the ground set pole), and put in ⅜" bolts and nuts to secure them. To do this, set all 4 corner poles level to each other, then add the mid poles. I have replaced my tarp once adding ropes running the 20' length midway down the height to sides and securing it to support the tarp and keep it from sagging. Someone else mentioned doing the ropes on the diagonal which may also work, or even doing a zig zag wrapping the ropes up and around the mid pole several times. I replaced my tarps with a doubled up heavier one sold on the side of the road and previously removed from a bill board. I understand they are no longer available in this heavy weight, but have used these in a number of places. I add grommets to the sides. So far, it has been up about 10 years, the first tarp cover lasting about 1 ½ years. It came with sides and those lasted about 5 years. i use this for my table saw work space next to the garage, and needed the higher height to be able to turn around some of the boards I was working with.

what kind of winds can this canopy take
-
gruenequeen· 9 years ago
we have 50 mph to 65 mph wind gusts in New Braunfels, and this has survived it. However, I have it in a protected location, and have added extra reinforcing with ropes running front to back midway up to secure the end poles, and have pounded 1 ½" poles 18-24" into the ground and drilled ⅜" holes though both posts and secured to each other with ¼" nuts and bolts

Many different factors can play a role in this question. Condition of the soil at a given time, type of anchors used and the quality of the installation of the anchoring system. There is no exact rating of wind speed for the canopy. Extremely high winds and wind gusts could compromise the canopy no matter how well it has been anchored to the ground.
