It is a fixed center shaft. Each disk of tines is free to spin independently on that shaft. There are no bearings, it is just a close fitting sleeve on the fixed shaft and they rely on grease being pumped in to keep it from seizing up.

Would the coring plugs be damaged by rocks or roots?
I live in the Ozarks where we have some rocky soil and large trees with roots at or near the surface. I can probably avoid the roots but I will hit rocks below the surface.
-
ZekeSC· 8 years ago
They are pretty stout, but I imagine any repeated pounding on rocks would dull the tip. However, they are replaceable.

Depending on the size of the rocks and the speed the unit is being used rocks may cause damage to the coring plugs over time. You can contact our parts department Monday-Friday 8 am-6 pm and Saturday's from 8 am-3 pm central time for assistance ordering replacement coring plugs. The part number is TGB53983-29. Can you turn while the tines are down or to do a turn around do you have to lift the tines?
-
ZekeSC· 8 years ago
Minor changes of direction can be made, but anything more, such as 90 or 180 degree turns should be made with the tines are up.

ProductExpert6· 8 years ago
It would be best to lift the tines when turning to protect the tines from breaking.

This can be used with any tractor or mower that has a 3 point Category 0 or 1 hitch. If used with a zero turn mower with the appropriate 3 point hitch special care is needed not to turn while lowered or both the mower and the implement can be damaged.
