I think it would work great for a water barrel but it isn't really designed to be subject to weather conditions or to be kept still for very long. Because it is cast iron, any water left inside when it is not running will turn rusty very quickly; it needs to be emptied after each use.

Is tthe Wayne PC4 actually self priming?
The literature for the Wayne PC4 says to fill the priming container.
Question: Must this be done with every use - meaning if I take it from one water source to another, do I have to open and fill the priming port every time I start it?
-
kickback1· 14 years ago
I leave the input and output hoses attached to my pump and cap them between uses and I never have to fill the port for it to siphon. If you drain or lose the fluid in the priming port you'll have to re-prime, and you can allways pour a quart or so of fluid down the input hose and easly prime it that way.

Self-priming in the water pump industry actually means that the pump head can be filled manually, then the pump will pull water from whatever distance it is capable of. If the pump head empties, you would need to refill it(self-prime) each time. A check or foot valve attached to the end of your suction hose can prevent water from running out of the pump each time it is shut off, and would keep it primed.

Is the pressure/flow adjustable?
I may want a smaller amount of booster/flow than the max that this can deliver. Is the answer just to constrict outflow via a hose nozzle or something? Would that harm the pump?
-
Smittyman· 15 years ago
No. There are no controls on the pump.

-
ProductExpert11· 16 years ago
No, the pressure and flow rate on this Wayne portable pump can not be adjusted.
Restricting the water flow will void the warranty and damage the pump.

Do you have the electrical draw ratings for this product?
Thank You!
-
kickback1· 14 years ago
The pump specs. show 8 amps @ 115V. That would be 8X115=920 watts, so if you have a 120V source then the amp draw would be a bit less. Dividing the watts by the voltage gives you the continuous amp draw. 920watts/120V=7.66A.
