  1. Are these "Lead Free" and suitable for drinking water?

    2. These frostproof yard hydrants are not lead free. They have been certified with a lead content of <0.25% by IAPMO R&T Labs.
      Although 25 percent of 1 percent is a small percentage, any amount of lead would not be good for human consumption as lead can accumulate in the body and specifically the brain over time and continued usage.

  2. Standpipe size is 1" but what is the connection size?

    Is the connection size 1" as well or 3/4"? Also, does it have the male or female threads on the standpipe to connect to the water source?

  3. How exactly are these installed, and to what?......

    Also do they require electric to operate...I am on a well supply, would I be able to attain water by hand with one of these if the power goes out or the well pump fails? :o)

    1. Water source must be under pressure from a pump. Does not need electricity, will operate under residual pressure from home water tank if connected to it, but if power goes out, only water left in tank will flow through

    2. These Watersource Frostproof Yard Hydrants must be plumbed into a pressurize water system. Depth of frost line in the area of use determines which Watersource Frostproof Yard Hydrant would be needed. The handle operates a valve that is below the frost line.
      The Watersource Frostproof Yard Hydrants will not operate once water line has lost pressure. A hand pump can be used to draw water directly from a well. Hand pumps require 1 1/4" pipe directly in the well and will only draw water from around 20' deep.

  4. Is there any reason that the Model # YH2 frostproof yard hydrant con not be attached to (supplied by) a half inch water line?

    1. It can be connected with the proper readily available fittings. Be aware that your half inch water line would be the weak link if excess force were to be placed on the hydrant. Also, the flow of the larger hydrant would be limited by the half inch water line.

    2. No, However the stand line for this unit is 1" inch so you will need a 1/2" inch adapter/reducer that could be purchased locally.

  5. How does the stand pipe drain back?

    1. Handle lifts up to turn on, when you lower the handle it pushes the water in the vertical pipe back down underground.

    2. Once this item is buried in the ground and the watering is completed the underground valve opens a small drain hole and drains into the gravel dropping any water below the frost line.

  6. Is backflow prevention incorporated in the design of this hydrant?

    1. Model YH2 (Item 108100) does not include an integrated backflow preventer. Its self-draining design only protects the hydrant against freeze damage by draining water below the frost line when shut off; it does not stop water from flowing backward into your potable supply.

  7. What is the total length, in inches, of the hydrant from bottom 3/4" connector to top of handle??

    1. The total length of the rod to the to the top of the handle is 43.11". The overall length is 48".

  8. What is the max water pressure rating for this hydrant?

    I have unregulated pressure in my pastures between 125 and 150 psi and it made my last hydrant start leaking within days.

  10. question about 24' BURY DEPTH HYDRANT

    I read an answer to a previous question and the answer was 2 ft. Does this mean , after installation the hydrant only stands 24' above ground level. if so how do you get one that stand aprox. 48" above ground. This is going inside a barn and dosen't really need a great bury depth.

    1. It is possible to order a hydrant with a 6 ft bury depth and only bury 2 ft of it to provide an overall height of 48" above ground. However, keep in mind that with 48" of pipe above the ground the hydrant will probably need to be otherwise secured to keep it from tipping over or bending when turning it on an off, because you will have twice the amount of pipe above ground as under ground giving you a 2 to 1 mechanical advantage over the pipe.
