The Trailer Stake Pocket DOES NOT have a bottom plate. The 2 x 4 would either rest or be fastened to the deck of your trailer, or can be secured using the hole on the face of the stake pocket itself.

the mounting holes look round, but some comments refer to square mounting holes for carriage bolts, please confirm.
Please also confirm the inside dimensions, want to know if a 2x4 fits without trimming.
-
Windcatcher101· 10 years ago
Somewhat larger than Standard 2'X4", suggest shim or lag screw or bolt.

They will absolutely fit. In fact you will find them to be a little too loose. You'll need to secure the 2x4 in the pocket.

I have a 5x8 trailer and will need to use stakes on three sides. The back has a bug gate that swings up. How many should I use?
-
Windcatcher101· 10 years ago
I suggest 2 on each stake, evenly spaced.

I would use four brackets. That's what I used but I split my side boards so I could take them off individually.

ProductExpert38· 14 years ago
The number of stakes needed varies depending on the application. The use of more stakes will provide more strength and stability. Four stakes on the sides and three along the front is usually sufficient for a 5'x8' trailer.

Do these brackets accept 1/2, 7/16, or 3/8 bolts since all three are listed.
1 answer-
ProductExpert6· 5 years ago
The two side mounting holes would require a 3/8" bolt.

Can these galvanized steel pockets be attached to an aluminum trailer? Will the metals react against each other? Will I have to drill holes?
1 answer-
ProductExpert7· 6 years ago
Galvanized metal and aluminum would not react to each other in moderate to mild humid conditions. This has pre-drilled holes.

The stake pocket holes are spaced 4 and 13/16 inches apart.
