The SunStar® Garage Tube Heater is ideal for residential garages, vestibules, entryways, workshops, enclosed patios, restaurants, smoking shelters, small greenhouses, hard-to-heat small areas and low-ceiling height applications. Low intensity radiant heat can save up to 30% in fuel savings over convection warm air heating. Requires horizontal vent kit, Item# 29794, or vertical vent kit, Item# 28795 (both sold separately). Requires Line Voltage Thermostat, Item# 16284 (sold separately) or 24V Thermostat, Item# 16342 and a 24V Thermostat Relay Kit, Item# 16289 (both sold separately). U.S.A.

NOTE: In residential garage applications, the heater must be vented outside through sidewall or the roof. In commercial/industrial space heating applications, the heater can be indirectly vented (optional exhaust hood sold separately). Please review the detailed Installation Operating Instructions (attached) for other specific installation requirements (gas pressure, ventilation etc.) prior to purchasing the heater.

  1. Can this heater be used in a wood shop? Does it have closed combustion chamber? Is it suitable, as is, at elevations of 5000 ft?

    1. The SIR series is designed for wood shops and features a vacuum combustion system that minimizes leakage. It is not a sealed or direct-vent unit. Residential installations must be vented outdoors, while commercial setups can use direct or indirect venting. This system is unsuitable for elevations above 5,000 feet.

  2. Is there a decorative Grill for the face of this heater?

    1. An outdoor kit (model #30366010) is available through the manufacturer. These kits come in 4-foot-long by 24-inch-wide sections.

  3. can the heater be mounted at an angle?

    1. The SIR series can be mounted at an angle up to 45° from horizontal; installation instructions are available in the manual.

  4. What is required to connect to natural gas 

    1 answer

    1. All gas supply lines must be located in accordance with the required clearances to combustibles from the heater as listed on clearance label of the heater. Installation must be set up per local codes and ordinances. An approved flexible connector is required for connections between the rigid piping and the heater. This should be installed before the control box. An approved shut off valve should be installed with in 6 feet of the union. The gas pipe, flexible hose and connections must be self supporting. The gas pipe must not bear any of the weight of the heater. The heater will require either the horizontal 4" vent kit item number 29794 or vertical kit item number 28795. The thermostat relay kit item number 16289 is also recommended for the heater. Installation instructions are included with the heater.

  5. can this be used outdoors?, I have a 30X20 feet at 9.5 foot height retractable awning. how far from the awning does the top needs to be? can this be ordered with a remote start ?

    1. The heater is for indoor and covered patio installation only. The clearance height from the bottom of the heater to combustibles will be 57 inches. Remote start is not available for this heater.

  6. Can this heater run pro pain instead of natural gas?

    1. This unit cannot run on propane. Please see our item #16273 for a propane version of this model.

  7. Does the tube need to be far enough away from an object such as farm machinery so that the paint does not get melted.

    1. The manufacturer suggests this be mounted at least 10 feet above the vehicle parked below this heater.

    1. The unit does need to be vented outside. The unit requires horizontal vent kit, Item# 29794, or vertical vent kit, Item# 28795 (both sold separately).

  9. orientation

    Can I use this ,on a 45* mount , with the control box on either side (left or right) ? Thanks

    1. The manufacturer recommends mounting the heater at 37 or 40 degrees. The control box maybe on either side as long as you have access to the box.

  10. what is the clearance from the ceiling to the top of the heater, or can it be mounted right to the ceiling?

    1. The SunStar Garage Tube Heater requires a clearance of four inches from the ceiling to the top of the heater.
