  1. Can you pull it easily by hand if necessary, without a mower?

    1. I tested over a small area. Yes, you can pull it but not very effectively. Plus you have to stoop over as pulled or weights can tip it over. To move around no problem but for aerating, best if pulled.

    2. Not by this 72 year old. It rolls nicely on it's core spikes in back of a lawnmower or golfcart. You can move it by hand when it is lowered onto the wheels, but that wouldn't be while coring. That would be for maneuvering it into a storage area.

    3. You could pull it yourself but it would be very awkward and I'm sure you wouldn't be able to do it for long. It's not meant to be pulled by hand.

    4. If you are referring to storing it yes. after you remove the weight blocks you can move it easily to store.

    5. This plug aerator will not pull easily by hand when the wheels are off the ground and the plug spikes are entering the ground. You can move it by hand when the wheels are down and the spikes are not touching the ground.

    1. No. the tine sections are pu together. The instructions were easy to follow. took me about 60 minutes to assemble.

    2. This absolutely does not come fully assembled. I had no problems with assembly, but would budget 90 minutes to 2 hours for that process and include an additional person if available for some of the steps due to weight.

    4. No. You will need to know your way around a tool set. Call a buddy or handyman if you don't like assembly, I would not recommend this being your first assembly job.

  4. When towing the aerator, are you able to make turns (within reason) with the tines still down or must/should they be lifted up to make a turn?

    1. I have had no problem with turns in my lawn

    2. With this aerator connected, turns should be slow and wide so the spikes do not make unwanted tears in the ground.

  5. What is the ideal speed and added weight ?

    Has anyone figured out the ideal speed to pull the 48" unit (or does it even matter) and how much additional weight should be added for best results?

    1. Speed didn't seem to make a big difference. I found using 4 cement blocks worked best but my yard was fairly dry and compacted when I used it. Weight need will vary based on soil type and moisture

    2. This plug aerator has a maximum speed of 5 MPH. We do not recommend a specific speed (or additional weight amount) as that will vary depending on the type of ground/soil it will be used on.

    I have tried calling the number that is found in the instruction manual and it is no longer in service.

  7. The tires on my Strongway Tow-Behind Plug Aerator are not maked for lb. PSI , what should they be inflated to? I'm guessing 30 lb PSI.

  8. Half split spikes

    THe spikes are not round but split, how do they make plugs

    1. They have apoint that penetrates the soil. the slit keeps them from clogging

    2. The coring plug spikes are rounded with a split open to release the plugs from the spikes after the plug has been pulled from the soil by the spike.
