I own half a dozen of these boxes and use them on ATVs and trailers. I doubt that they'd keep water out if I submerged them in a lake but they keep out rain and snow. The only annoyance is that if there's water puddled on the lid when you open it, usually some runs into the box. If that concerns you, you need to towel off the box before opening it.
