The Roughneck® 4.5-Oz. Premium-Grade Tarp provides superior durability and sun shielding. The silver side reflects sunlight, and the black side prevents light penetration. The first layer is tightly woven, 14 strands per inch x 14 strands per inch of polyethylene fiber, and the 2 other layers are polyethylene laminate, producing a durable weight of 4.5 oz. per sq. yd. Aluminum grommets are spaced 2ft. apart. This tarp resists water, mildew and UV rays.

  1. What is the mil thickness of this tarp.

    1. I am too lazy to go out in the rain this morning and put a mike on it for you but I can tell you that it is so heavy that I can barely lift it. This is not going to blow away in the wind easily. They call it 6 oz material. I would guess from handling it that it is more than 10 mills thick. Heavy plastic. I am impressed with it. I almost need a helper to put it over my machine.

    2. The mil on this tarp is not stated. The weight is 6 oz per square foot.

  2. For maximum life should I put silver side or black side up? It says silver reflects and black prevents light penetration. In my experience however, black usually has the UV inhibitors.

    1. To prolong the life of the tarp, use the black side up and store it in a cool dry area when it is not in use.
