  2. Advice On Painting My Tank

    Can you give me some insight about painting Bare Aluminum? Should these tanks be cleaned,etched,primed,and painted before using near Saltwater,,,or for that matter............Anywhere?

    1. For painting the aluminum tank you will need to clean the entire surface using an approved (local ordinance) solvent based wax and grease remover finishing with a clean towel. Sand with a 120-180
      grit DA sander, feather edge with 320 grit sandpaper, re-clean, then use a etch primer and finish with a coal tar epoxy.

    2. As long as the the tank can air dry on all surfaces you do not need to paint. To paint if you like you will need to etch prime and paint.

  3. How much fuel of the 13 gallons is useable?

    The tank has two useable outlets. Do the internal supply lines extend to the bottom of the tank and is there a filter or screen on the pickup end?

    1. Yes, both extend to the bottom. I clipped one off for a return. No there is no screen

    2. The usable fuel amount of this tank is 12 1/2 gallons. The tank is 12" deep and the internal supply lines extend 11 1/2" deep. There isn't a filter or screen on the pickup end.

  4. Does it have an anti-siphon valve?

    1. The tank does not come with a built-in anti-siphon valve. It comes with a standard 1/4" NTP pickup tube outlet. Any required anti-siphon protection would need to be added separately to the fuel line to meet regulations.

  5. Does this tank have provisions for installing a sending unit for a fuel level guage?

    1. The fuel tank would have provisions for monitoring fuel levels, but it is designed for use with a tank mounted mechanical gauge rather than a standard electrical sending unit.

    1. The stock fill cap on the RDS 13-gal marine tank is a standard, non-locking vented cap with an integrated float gauge.

  9. What is overall height with cap and such?

    1. The height of the tank is 12" and the height of the fill cap is 1 3/4", the overall height would be 13 3/4".

  10. how does the fuel get pumped to outboard engine?

    1 answer

    1. The tank has fuel pickup valve on top of the tank. You would need to purchase a fuel line hose to connect to the tank and the other end to the engine. Fuel line kits would be available through marine dealers. When the fuel hose is connected, the outboard engine by design will draw fuel into the engine.  There is a primer bulb on the hose to help initially start syphoning the fuel out of the tank and into the hose.
