This Powerhorse® OHV Horizontal Engine is an easy-to-install solution for small engine needs. With 208cc and 9 ft.-lbs. Gross Torque, it provides enough power to run a wide range of equipment, including log splitters and pressure washers.   1. What kind of centrifugal clutch will work?

    1. Anything that will work on a standard 5 HP Briggs engine will work with these engines. The mounting, shaft and layout are identical to the Briggs.

    3. Any centrifugal clutch with a 3/4" bore. Make sure to match the correct chain size and choose the appropriate amount of teeth depending on your specific application.

  2. Where do you buy oil for this engine?

    1. Any 10W-30 motor oil is fine.

    2. Anywhere that sells 5W or 10W-30 oil, just like you put in your car.

    3. You can use virtually any 10W30 oil. I prefer synthetic oil, which is the type I use in all my engines, including my tractors & vehicles. Synthetic oil will not thicken in very cold weather, so starting engines is easier on the battery and your arm for manual start engines. I like the Wal*Mart house brand of synthetic oil because it's much cheaper than name brands. I would also strongly recommend fuel stabilizer added to the gasoline to prevent its deterioration over long periods, which can cause big engine problems. Of course, you can run the engine out of fuel, and drain any remaining in the tank, but I find it easier to use the stabilizer. I use POR15 stabilizer.

    4. The owners manual for this engine recommends 10w30 weight oil in most temperatures and 5w30 weight oil in extremely cold temperatures. These are both common oil weights and should be available anywhere oil is sold. Be sure to check the owners manual for specific temperature ranges for each oil weight.

  3. will this work with a go-kart

    1. Yes, I have used it with 2 go karts and it works brilliantly. lots of power, doesnt matter if you use a friction clutch or a torque converter, its great.

  4. what is the hp of this engine

    can this be used for a snow blower application

    1. Yes. As long as the bolt patterns and shaft diameter/length/keyway all match the motor you are replacing.
      Snowblower engines are typically the same as any other horizontal engine, except they have no air cleaner and the pull cord handle is "glove sized".

    2. Powerhorse, like many small engine manufacturers, does not rate in horsepower. This engine has a gross torque rating of 9 ft-lbs. While this would work with some snow blowers, we recommend calling one of our product experts at 1-800-221-0516 to determine if it will work with yours.

    2. The rotation on the Powerhorse engines cannot be reversed. When looking at the shaft, it will rotate counter clockwise.

  6. For mini bike

    I want to get this for my mini bike but need to link it to a throttle. Does anyone know how to do it?

    1. It's fairly easy depending on how you want to do it. For a more professional job I complicated the install. I used a real dirt bike style throttle cable with the metal curved adjustable housing on either end. I modified the throttle cable retainer to fit my cable but if you used just a regular cable that mod is not needed. You will loosen the throttle lever to allow it to move freely and I added a second throttle return spring to make sure the twist grip would snap back. I believe I remember the instructions referencing this. You can also look on YouTube. It's made for a remote throttle. Enjoy it. The power on my daughters trike is great.

    2. To link this Powerhorse engine to your throttle, you will need to loosen the pivot bolt on the throttle lever. Next connect your throttle cable to the throttle using a housing stop, then run to your cable to your twist grip on the mini bike.

  9. is it good for a gokart

    i take out in the woods

    1. yes it is, I have one on my minibike, and it works amazingly, put a heavy duty Hillard centrifugal clutch on it and it will fly, throttle linkage is a little tricky but do-able. after seeing my minibike addition, one of my friends went and bought the same motor for his gokart, we are going to mount it this week

  10. will this engine work on power trowel

    will this engine replace a 5hp brigs and stratton on a concrete power trowel

    1. The 208 CC engine is a DIRECT replacement for the 5 HP Briggs engine. I've used two of them to replace the Briggs engines in log splitters that had blown up. The mounting base pattern, shaft sized and placement are exactly the same. You should have NO problem with it and the price difference will save you a bunch!

    2. While it may be possible to use this engine to replace your existing Briggs engine you will need to make sure that you compare the the critical measurements on your existing engine to ensure a proper fit. These measurements may include the following:
      1.) Shaft length, diameter and type
      2.) Mounting base dimensions
      3.) P.T.O. height
      4.) Bolt circle
      5.) Overall dimensions of the engine.
      All of theses specifications can be found under the "Key specs" tab on the product. Some, all or none of these may be critical to your specific installation.
