Power and Convenience
The Heart and Soul of Powerhorse Reliability
With industrial-strength components and thorough U.S.-based testing, we're certain that the Powerhorse 3-Pt. Horizontal/Vertical Log Splitter is one of the most reliable log splitters in the industry. Before you put your log splitter to the test for the first time, you can be confident that we already have. Our engineers put each Powerhorse log splitter component through a series of extensive, real-world testing in our Faribault, MN, testing facility and in the field.
Get to Work
The Powerhorse 3-Pt. Horizontal/Vertical Log Splitter attaches to Category 1 and Category 2 tractor 3-pt. hitches for portability and power. It doesn't matter if you're splitting logs to get you through the winter or for a campfire, sometimes it's just easier to bring the splitter to the log pile than it is to bring the pile to the splitter.
Engineered To Perform
Always Ready
When you get the Powerhorse 3-Pt. Horizontal/Vertical Log Splitter, your splitting jobs just get easier. Instead of having an onboard hydraulic system, it uses your tractor's hydraulic system to create up to 22 tons of splitting force. It also has a number of features that make sure you can take care of your splitting jobs with minimal maintenance; wire reinforced hose ensures longevity; Halite hydraulic cylinder seals resist wear and provide superior sealing.
Built to Perform
When you get a Powerhorse log splitter, you know that you're getting a tool you can rely on. The backbone of this log splitter is a strong, long-lasting industrial-grade I-beam. To make your job easier, the log splitter has bolt-on cradles that center logs on the wedge and prevent them from rolling off the beam. When you need to split a log that is too large to lift onto the beam, converting to vertical splitting is as easy as pulling a pin.

How should the splitter be parked when off of the tractor?
There are no pictures showing how the splitter should be parked or stored. There are no parking stands with the splitter.

This 3-Pt. log splitter doesn't come with parking stands. Parking stands are not available separately for it. This splitter can be stored on the ground/concrete where it's protected from corrosive material(fertilizer, etc.) and the elements(rain, snow, etc.). The wedge/cylinder must be retracted before it's stored. Also, the beam and wedge must be wiped with an oily rag to prevent corrosion.

Are hoses (hydraulic to tractor) included?
Are the hoses included to hook up to the back of the tractor? How long are they?

hose and fittings not included to attach to the tractor

You will need to provide the two hydraulic hoses that connect to your tractor. The length of those hoses depends on the location of the connectors on your tractor. Mine are on the rear of the tractor. 6 ft. Would have worked, but I used 8 ft. just to allow a little extra.

This 3-Pt. log splitter does not include supply and return hoses for connecting it to your tractor’s auxiliary hydraulic connections. It requires two 1/2” hydraulic hoses rated for 3000 PSI with male, 1/2” NPT threaded ends.

would the log splitter be able to operate from a skid laoder?
I would like to run this from a skid loader and I do have a 3-Pt attachment that would be on the front of the skid so it has something to mount to. But has anyone ran this from a skid loader?
TIA!

If you have a 3-pt tractor hitch class 1 or class 2, it will attach, but the question is do you have 1/2 inch hydraulic connections? If so, then yes it should work.

PowerhorseExpert31· 7 years ago
This can be run from a skid loader provided it has a Category 1 or 2 three point hitch and a hydraulic system flow rate that does not exceed 11 gallons per minute.

How does the splitter hyd valve operate in conjunction with the existing tractor hyd valve?
Do the hydraulic hoses connect to the existing hydraulic valve connection on the tractor. If so, how does the splitter remote valve operate through the valve on the tractor? Just a little confused.
Thanks!

two rear remotes (Two connections per remote)......one is spring loaded to center (Green system), one has a lever that stays put where ever you put it (Blue System). So for this application, I used the Blue System. I position the remote lever on the tractor full forward. This makes the blue connection on the right (as you look at the back of the tractor) the pressure side, and the blue connector on the left the return side. I then hook up the hose from the right side of the tractor, to the right side of the splitter (input) and the left side of the splitter (outlet) to the left connector on the tractor which is the hydraulic return (based on the position of my blue system lever). From here I just use the control on the splitter. Hold the splitter lever to drive the splitter to split. Push the splitter lever once, and the hydraulic system holds that lever in the retract position till fully retracted, then it is bumped out of detent. Simple.

This log splitter is powered by using the existing tractors hydraulic lines and is operated by the hydraulic valve on the log splitter. Connect one hose from the tractor’s hydraulic supply port to the supply inlet port on the log splitter's control valve. Connect the second hose from the tractor’s return port to the connection at the return outlet port on the log splitters control valve.

what would cycle time be with 11gpm?
-
kpinkert· 10 years ago
My tractor provides 11 gpm at PTO throttle speed. I think the cycle time is close to 14 to 15 seconds, all the way extended and back again. However, in real use, I never let the piston go all the way to home as my logs are not that long.

PowerhorseExpert13· 12 years ago
The cycle time with 11gpm would be 13 seconds.

Can this be hooked up to the front bucket hydraulic ports and work? I don’t have the hydraulic hook up on the rear of my tractor
1 answer-
PowerhorseExpert12· a year ago
This log splitter could be connected to the front bucket hydraulic ports; however, it would not be recommended to drive the tractor with the log splitter mounted. Since there are many variations of hydraulic connections on tractors, ensuring a correct hook-up to the specific tractor is the user's responsibility.

What length hydraulic hose works best, what diameter hose and what end connector fittings (e.g. threaded male or female) are needed to attach to this splitter?
1 answer-
PowerhorseExpert12· 2 years ago
You will need to supply two 1/2” hydraulic hoses rated for 3000 PSI with male, 1/2” NPT threaded ends.
Measure the distance from your tractor’s hydraulic supply port to the supply inlet port on the log splitter’s control valve. Check the distance with the log splitter in both horizontal and vertical orientations, choose whichever distance is greater.
Measure the distance from your tractor’s hydraulic return port to the return outlet port on the log splitter’s control valve. Check the distance with the log splitter in both horizontal and vertical orientations, choose whichever distance is greater.
Cut two hydraulic hoses to an appropriate length for making these connections. Make sure there is sufficient, but not excessive length, such that hoses will not stretch, bind, kink, or dangle. Remember: this log splitter is both horizontal and vertical; make sure hoses are long enough for both splitting positions.
