  1. What is the max dig depth and can it support an 18" wide auger?

    1 answer

    1. The cutting depth depends on how low your center link and 3pt arms can go. Standard Cat 1 should get 30 to 40” depth. The Augers that Behlen offers are 48” long.

      It is not recommended to put any auger larger than a 12” diameter on our post hole diggers. Even though an 18” auger, with a 2” shaft, would fit onto the output 2” shaft of the gearbox, the Horsepower of the gearbox is not rated for it. You could potentially damage the gearbox, the auger, and the tractor.

    1. This post hole digger does include the PTO shaft, but it does not include an auger bit. The auger bits are available in 6" (item #7055186), 9" (item #7055258) and 12" (item #7055215).

  4. Whats minimum tractor hp rating for this auger.. Also is it cat 1 or 2?

    1. The minimum recommended HP tractor needed is 40 HP with 540 RPM. The post hole digger will work with both category 1 and 2.
