Product Summary

This blend of live bacteria and enzymes is specifically designed to improve water quality by reducing unwanted nutrients in your water. It clears out pond- or lake-bottom debris like leaves, grass clippings, dead and dying plants, excess food and other organic matter. These bottom-lying materials are referred to as the sludge layer and are responsible for bad odors and low oxygen levels. Each 5-lb. block treats up to 5 acre-feet of water. Non-chemical treatment is safe for fish, plants and other wildlife. U.S.A.

  2. Can the pond be over treated

    I have a pond with rainbow trout, it isn't 5 acres of water, will it harm the fish if I put the whole thing in the pond?

    1. I have a stocked half acre pond and I use it annually with very good results. I use the whole block.

    2. The Pond Boss Pro Block Bacteria will last 30 to 90 days depending on the amount of sludge and bacteria treated. It has the ability to last longer in cleaner, less polluted waters.

    and can I break this up into two pieces for separate ponds or separate times for a smaller pond?

    1. I had no problems with algae so I can't comment on that but I don't see any reason why it can't be broken into two pieces for uses in 2 different situations.

  5. Will water temperature be a factor using this product? 60° or less.

    1. This is best suited for temperatures above 55 degrees.This will become less effective as water temperatures drop below that.

  6. Can I use this in a large lake around my dock and would it be ok to swim near it?

    1. While the effectiveness of the treatment would decrease, this could be used in a lake larger than 5 acres provided it is allowed by local regulations if it is a public lake. Swimming in the treated water would not be recommended by the manufacturer. At this time they have not tested this item for that application.

    1. This product will not remove existing duckweed. It may help slow the reproduction of new duckweed plants as it will remove nutrients in the water that duckweed feeds on.
