  1. How does one determine angle & grind heel size?

    1. There is a chart in the owner's manual with settings for Oregon brand chains. You can visit the websites of other chain manufacturers for their recommended settings.

      The head tilt angle on this grinder is fixed, and there is no 'down angle' adjustment, so the user only has to select the correct grinding wheel, and the top plate angle (chain vise rotation). Pretty simple to set up.

    2. Before you start to sharpen you will need to know the type of chain you have and the relative adjustment angles. You will find this information in your owners manual for the chain saw or on the chain pack. The chain identification code is usually written on the drive link. The manual that comes with this chain grinder will have a chart to tell you the angle and size wheel to use from your chain information.

  3. I would like to know the overall dimensions such as height and overall width for this sharpener. I need to know how much head room I need to install it on a mobile work bench I am designing for my son's business.

    1. The height of the grinder when the head is at its highest point is 12-1/2". The width of the grinder at its widest point on the base is 4-7/8" and the widest part of the grinder head is 5-1/16".

  5. can i sharpen carbide tip chains with the wheel provided?

    1. The chain sharpener grinding wheels included cannot be used for grinding carbide tip chains. A 3/16" wheel for grinding carbide tip chains is available. It would be part number 4X316X78DIAMOND. This would be available through the manufacturer.
