Product Summary

This grinder is a durable machine built with the quality and features needed for frequent high-volume chain sharpening. Comes with 1/8in., 3/16in. and 1/4in. grinding wheels for sharpening chain pitches up to 3/4in. Also includes built-in light, wheel-dressing brick and a template for pitch, depth-gauge setting and wheel contour. Upgrades from Item# 19304 include new adjustment capabilities for accurate grinds as the wheel wears and self-centering vise for equal grind angles without adjustment. Meets ANSI standards.

    what is the scale below the vice use for?

    1. It is used to set the pitch of the chains. Some chains require more or less than others. The instructions come with a chart that shows the angles required for different chains.

    2. The measurements listed on the bottom of the Oregon Chain Grinder are for sharpening angles as well as sharpening angles for chains with "down angles". Please click on the PDF manual listed on the item page for more details.

    1. No. The 511AX grinder will sharpen most pitches and types of round ground chain. Square ground chain requires a specialty grinder.

  5. How are the depth gages cut to the proper depth?

    1. I use the same tool that I used to use when I hand sharpened to determine how much to grind. I then install the 1/4" non radius wheel that comes with the grinder and grind one depth gauge until my tool says it is flush. I then set my chain pitch stop on the chain vise to bring depth gauges under the wheel instead of the cutters. It is really much simpler than I've made it sound. It is much faster than the sharpening process and produces excellent results.

    1. The Oregon Bench-Mount Chain Grinder comes with a 1/8'' , 3/16'' , and a 1/4'' grinding wheels for sharpening chain pitches from 1/4'' - 3/4''. To sharpen a 404 ripping chain you would need to use the 3/16" grinding wheel.
