  1. Does this pump have a trottle and if so can it be adjusted

    I want to know this because i am interested in using this pump to pump water through a drip irrigation system and at times when only watering small areas the full 94 PSI may be a bit to much pressure and i would want to reduce it.

    1. Yes it has a throttle lever to adjust speed from an idle to various speeds.

  4. is this pump self priming

    1. You have to fill the pump housing first, then it should pick up from your water supply. The pump has a flapper valve at the pump which keeps the pump from loosing prime, but with lenghty suction hoses you should use a foot valve at the source.

  5. Can I put a 2" to 1.5" reduce to run 1.5 fire hose

    I am considering purchasing this pump to be use as an on premise fire fighting and will be operating pump @ 9500' elevation. I want to use a 2" to 1.5" reducer to run ~ 150' of 1.5" fire hose. Will this reduction result in a backup pressure?

    1. it will work fine-you can run this pump about half throttle and you will have plenty of pressure

    2. This pump is designed to be used as a high pressure pump, so back pressure will occur. A 1.5 inch hose should not be an issue is used properly. If the operation of the engine is always at altitudes Higher than 6,000 feet above sea level, an authorized Honda Engine dealer will need to perform carburetor modifications. At high altitude, the standard carburetor air/fuel mixture will be excessively rich. Performance will decrease while fuel consumption will increase.

  6. Can the outlet port be rotated 90 Degrees as shown in manual?

    1. Yes. Simply remove the four bolts, rotated it 90 degrees right or left, and reinstall the four bolts.

  7. Electric start

    I see that Northern Tool has a 160cc Honda GX motor (same as this) with electric start, can I get this NorthStar-High-Pressure Water Pump with an electric start for my elderly father?

    1. I would doubt an electric start is an option as this motor has no provisions for it that I can see. However, my wife can start it easily with one pull. It doesn't take a lot of effort. Hope this helps.

    2. This water pump includes a Honda engine with recoil start. This pump is not available with an electric start engine.

    1. About 5 hp

    2. Honda, along with most other small engine manufacturers, no longer rates small utility engines by horsepower. All are now categorized by displacement, which is 160 cubic centimeters on this engine.

  9. What is the fuel tank capacity?

    1. I don't know exactly, but my guess is about 3 quarts. It will run about 2 hours at 3/4 throttle.

  10. just bought this pump and am wondering how good of a strainer/filter it needs? I will be pumping out of a ditch and ponds for a portable sprinkler. Th

    1. These pumps need VERY fine screen over the regular screen. DO NOT run with normal intake screen. The impellers will clog even with fine screen. We use 1/16th mesh over the top of reg intakes. Please note we own SEVEN of these pumps.
