Can I put this under the hood of my truck? And also the size of the pulley would determine the rpm at an idle, right?
1 answer-
NorthstarExpert29· 5 years ago
This generator head cannot be installed in the engine compartment of a vehicle. It requires a consistent RPM between 3,540 and 3,720 (3,600 recommended) RPM's to operate properly and would also have a higher risk of overheating. The size of the generator pulley would be determined by the engine pulley size and engine RPM's (Engine Pulley = Generator RPM (3,600) x Generator Pulley / Engine RPM.

Shaft internal thread size
Does anyone know the bolt\machine screw which will fit into the shaft of this unit?
1 answer-
NorthstarExpert30· 6 years ago
The shaft on this NorthStar Belt-Driven generator head is not tapped and is not designed to have a bolt installed in the end. This NorthStar Belt-Driven Generator Head is recommended to be connected using pulleys and a v-belt(s). An alternative method is to direct couple the generator to the engine with the use of LoveJoy couplings. This method requires great care to align the shafts of the generator and engine to within the specified tolerances of the chosen coupler.

Max Ambient Temp?
What is the maximum ambient temperature that this unit can be run in?
1 answer-
NorthstarExpert11· 9 years ago
This generator doesn't have a maximum ambient temperature restriction. Position it so there is adequate clearance around the generator head to allow for cooling airflow so that heat doesn't build up. The closest object should be at least 7 feet away from the vents.

How can I draw 22 amps from one 120V receptacle to power devices that draw that much current?
Is it a simple matter of modifying the wiring harness to connect both hot lines together and replacing the receptacle with a NEMA 5-20R?
1 answer-
NorthstarExpert12· 10 years ago
The NorthStar Belt-Driven Generator Head is only capable of producing 21.7 amps of 120 volt power or 10.8 amps of 240 volt power. Any modifications would void the warranty and would not be recommended.

Hertz?
I was hoping to send this to Ukraine, where the operating hertz are 50 not 60 like in the US. I know certain generator heads can be switched between 50/60 hertz by lowering the rpm. Is this the case with this generator head or is it rated only at 60 hertz? Thanks
1 answer-
NorthstarExpert13· 11 years ago
This generator head is only designed to run at a frequency of 58.0-63.0 hertz at 3480 - 3780 RPM.
