  2. does this winch power in and out, pulling in both directions?

    1. This winch does power in and out but also has a clutch that can be released to be able to pull the line out by hand.

    2. Yes, but when powered out there was only the guy pulling the cable for weight. We were on level ground and were only spooling out to hook up to our log.

  3. will this wench have sufficient pull to lift a boat weighing 1100 pounds?

    The wench will fit on a davit (crane) with a roller pully on the end of the arm. I will be lifting a boat a distance of about 20' vertically. Also need spacing on the bolt holes for attaching.

    1. This winch is rated for up to 9000lbs maximum, and has lifted the front end of my 6600lb Dodge Ram off the ground without any trouble.

      1100lbs seems well within the lifting capacity, but I wouldn't use it in this capacity without putting a cable brake on your davit so that the winch isn't holding all of the weight alone.

    2. Northern Tool does not recommend ever using a winch for lifting. All winches are designed for pulling, and hoists are designed for lifting. Hoists have different brakes designed for holding a vertical load. The only electric hoist we sell that could handle more 1000 lbs could lift this about 18 feet. See link below.

  4. Are the motor and gearcase sealed; i.e. waterproof?

    1. This is not waterproof. It is rated for non-industrial use in marine environments. The motor and gearbox are enclosed, but we would not imply they are completely sealed.

    2. They are not sealed with any kind of gasket, but the machining is pretty tight so it has a good seal on it. Speaking from experience, I had a buddy borrow mine and left it in the bed of his truck while it was parked downhill and it rained. When I came to pick it up the next day it was still completely under water. Pulled it part to see if there was anthing, and there was a little water in it but nothing bad, still works great and I have had mine over a year and have abused the heck out of it. Still as strong as the day i bought it.

  5. ya they say there is power leads but how long are they cosidering this is going to the back of the vehicle

    1. The power leads are only long enough to go from your front bumper into you engine compartment to your battery. But this is an exellent winch for the money.

    1. You should be able to get this as a replacement part by calling the Northern Tool support hotline. I purchased a spare from them last year.

  7. Is there a weatherproof cover available for this winch? I have mine mounted on a open trailer and would like to keep the elements off it> Let me know?

    1. I purchased a neoprene universal fit cover for mine and it has done a great job keeping the dust and mud off of my winch, not so much as a spec of rust on it yet.

      I included a link to a Northern Tool cover for a Ramsey or Patriot winch, but it looks like it should fit, if it doesn't, the Northern Tool return policy is very flexible.
