To vary the speed of the drill, increase or decrease pressure to the trigger. The further the trigger is pulled the greater the speed. The lock button holds the trigger in the on position for continuous full speed usage.

Buy this or a rotary hammer drill?
I have an immediate need to drill 8 1/2" holes in a concrete garage floor. Will this do the job or should I step up to a rotary hammer?

The hammer drill would not handle drilling 8 1/2" holes into concrete. A Coring Rig would be recommended for this size hole into concrete. See item #M0089 below.
