  2. Is this shear to over powering for thin metals or aluminum such as used in license plates ? will it bend the material as it shears it

    3. This Klutch plate shear would work for cutting thin metals. It is mainly designed for use with sheet metal, carbon steel, stainless steel, and steel rod.

  3. What is it's gauge limit for cutting 304 SS sheet? Must it be annealed?

    1. In the manual a maximum spec of 3/32 is given for stainless steel. The heat treatment and alloy specifics aren't given.

    2. Annealing is not required. This cuts up to 1/4" sheet metal.

    1. This Klutch Plate Shear can cut up to 1/2" steel rod and rebar. Northern Tool also offers item 41559 for a rebar cutter.

  7. Does the “off cut”/other side o the metal being cut get bent or curled, or does it come out perfectly straight like it would on a stomp shear?

    1. When secured properly, this plate shear can make straight cuts without bending or curling the cut side.

    1. The shear is designed for shearing carbon steel plate and bar, non ferrous metals and plastic plate and bar. It is not recommended to cut rubber.

  9. Since steel siding panels are not flat and have a ridged profile will this shear work well for cutting steel building siding panels cleanly without bending the highs and lows?

    1. This product will cut carbon steel flat plate cleanly, but is not guaranteed to cut the ridges cleanly.
