The metal shear does have a backstop. It is adjustable up to 35 inches. To adjust this, loosen the adjustment knobs, slide the angle, move the rod forward or backward so the scales read zero on the pointers. Then, lock the bracket again and perform further adjustments with the wheel.

The cutting capacity is not determined by the length and width of the piece. The cutting capacity is determined by the material and thickness of the piece. This shear is capable of cutting 14-ga. aluminum up to 2mm thick, 16-ga. mild steel up to 1.4mm thick, 18-ga. high-carbon steel up to 1.2mm thick, and 30-ga. stainless steel up to 0.3mm thick.

This shear is equipped with a micro adjusting stop assembly.

This shear cannot cut 16 gauge stainless steel. It has a maximum capacity of 30 gauge for stainless steel.

This metal shear can cut aluminum up to 2 mm thick, but it is not designed for cutting any plastic. The capacity is not large enough to cut 3 mm and 6 mm Signabond.
