  1. How do I change belt speeds?

    How do I change belt speeds? No covered in manual.

    Klutch Metal Cutting Band Saw — 7in. x 12in., 1 1/2 HP, 115/230V

    1. You will need to loosen the motor adjustment bolts so that you can get enough slack in the belt to change grooves. From the factory, the belt was way too tight to adjust without loosing the motor first.

    3. Changing blade/belt speeds is addressed on page 9 of the owner's manual. The blade/belt speed is determined by which grooves are used on both the motor pulley and the saw/worm pulley. Instructions on how to change speeds are also listed on the band saw's pulley cover.   5. I cut a lot of Flat Mild Steel 3/4" to 1" will this saw work for this application

    1. will only cut 12" wide if you flip over the steel.Band saw hits vice near bottom of stroke. Just cut a piece this wide 30 minutes before this was answered.

    2. This Klutch Metal Cutting Band Saw would cut 3/4'' to 1'' flat mild steel as long as the sheet of steel does not exceed 12'' in width.

  6. Is this saw shipped in a crate or box? I was wondering if it could be laid on the side to haul it.

    1. It comes in a 1/2" thick plywood box measuring 21.75" X 55.5" X 45.25" High. It is over twice as high as it is wide, so you have to strap it good. I used 2 ratchet straps in an X over the top and hooked on the corners of the pickup bed. It rode 250 miles, no problems.

    2. The unit is more likely to leak fluid if laid on its side. The unit is very top heavy and may cause damage if not secured properly. It is recommended to avoid laying the unit on its side unless absolutely necessary for transportation.

  8. Will this work on wood?

    Our primary use would be to cut steel but was wondering if you could use this as a band saw for wood as well? Could we install a smaller band and run it in the upright position to turn it into a multi use machine? Not sure how it would work on tight angles. Any information available would be appreciated.

    1. The Klutch Metal Cutting Band Saw is not designed for wood cutting. The blade will be moving much too slow for cutting wood. Metal cutting band saws require very low RPM compared to wood cutting saws which run at high RPM. Northern Tool item number #426404 would be a recommendation similar to this.

  9. how wide will this machine cut. I am looking at cutting 8" flat steel

    1. This Klutch Metal Cutting Band Saw is designed to cut up to 7in. wide metal stock. The Klutch Metal Band Saw with Geared Drive is able to cut up to 9in. widths. Please reference Northern Tool item number 49465 for that product.

    1. This band saw can run without coolant; however, the life of the saw blade will be much shorter and the saw efficiency will be very low.
