  2. Does the cord stay locked in position when you pull it out, and then retract if you pull it a short distance like a normal air hose reel?

    1. Yes, they will hold on the ratchet.

      I had to comment here as it is not possible to reply to individual reviews. gj68 is using the reels incorrectly!!
      you are supposed to pull the reel out and stop WHILE THE RATCHET IS STILL CLICKING to get it to hold and if you listen to the video that's what happens when he gets it to hold. If you pull past the clicks the ratchet goes into free wheel to allow the cord to retract. There is nothing wrong with his cord reels.

    5. To latch the reel, pull out the cord then allow it to retract after hearing the first, second, or third “click”. To unlatch the reel, slowly pull out the cord until the “clicking” noise stops then, while holding on to the cord, let it retract in a controlled way until the cord stop rests against the cord guide rollers.

  3. How well would this perform if mounted outdoors?

    I'm redoing one of the overhangs / soffit vents on my home, and I'm wondering about this thing's resistance to weather. The plan would be to hang it under the roof overhang where it would be out of direct exposure to sun, wind, and rain. But it'd probably get some secondary exposure, just because it'd be outdoors. If I kept the open AC receptacles suitably covered, would this work in this application?

    1. I don't think it would be a problem, I use it in my shop which is not sealed very well and have no problems

  4. What drill bit size holes do you recommend for the provided wood screws?

    1. As with all pilot hole drilling, lay a drill bit over to the screw and choose the one that allows you only to see the threads sticking out

    2. A drill bit size of 7/32" would work for drilling pilot holes for the lag bolts/screws.

  8. I want to use this on a overhead hoist. Can you disable the cord locking mechanism so it extends and retracts as the hoist moves with out locking?

    1. The cord locking mechanism is not designed to be modified in that manner.
