  1. Can this device be used to check car battery voltage?

    I want to check if my car starting problems are related to battery voltage and therefore need a device to check when this problem happens again.

    1. The Ironton Digital Pocket Multimeter is capable of checking a 12V car battery's Voltage.

    2. the meter does have DC voltage test positions from 200 millivolts to 600 volts

    3. Yes it will read your battery voltage, but an unloaded, dead car battery can still read 12 volts. A quick and easy test is to turn on the headlights while you take the reading. A battery in good condition and fully charged will read somewhere between 11.75 and 14 volts.

    8. Yes but volts only. It will not measure battery load !You can check circuit from battery to starter and beyond to actual ignition key using "continuity" setting.You should be looking for incomplete circuits.

  3. Does this unit test for continuity, with a audio alert?

    1. yes there is a speaker setting on the main dial. It is not very loud but loud enough as long as there is not to much other noise.

  4. Does this unit has self-zeroing resistance calibration (with the leads touched it reads 0 ohms)? Many cheap meters will still read a resitance.

    1. Reads 0 when leads are touched

    2. The ohms scales zero themselves however the lowest range (200) will reflect the test lead resistance, usually under .5 ohms. All standard meters do this. If you're measuring this low and want high accuracy you need a special meter for low ohms.

    1. The fuse is in a holder and is replaceable as is the standard 9 volt battery.

    2. This tool has a 500mA fuse. If the fuse blows, you can replace it by unscrewing the bolt on the housing.

    1. This meter can be used to measure DC amps only.

    2. From the selections shown on the meter's dial, it appears that it will measure DC current only. Ranges include 200 micro-amps, 2 - 20 - 200 milli-amps and 10 amps (all shown in white letters on the right side of the dial).
