Mark the spot: Use a pencil or chalk to mark where you want the center of the grommet.
Punch the hole: Place a piece of scrap wood under your material. Set the hole punch on your mark and strike it firmly with a hammer.
Insert the grommet: Place the male piece (the one with the long barrel) up through the hole from the underside of the fabric.
Add the washer: Place the anvil underneath the grommet. Place the washer (female piece) over the protruding barrel on top, with the rounded side facing up.
Set and crimp: Place the setter tool into the barrel hole on top of the washer. Tap the setter firmly with a hammer a few times. Swirl or angle the tool slightly while tapping to roll and crimp the metal evenly against the washer.
