This rock drill continuously pounds and rotates to create holes in a rock. It is designed to drill holes up to 2 inches wide and 18 feet deep in hard rock. The H thread rod is what connects this drill to the bit that is designed for the drill.

So this works more like a chisel than drill?
From the photos, the bits don't look sharp, but I'm assuming they must be. Does this work more like a chisel than drill? Does this work on solid rock--like a huge area that is all one piece of rock? Finally, want is the difference between the H type bits and the other one? Which to use when, etc.?

How does this work?
I've never heard of this tool before, and from your description, I have no idea how this works. Is this powered with an air compressor? Does this use a drill bit? I see nothing sharp or 'drill like' at all. Assuming there must be sharpened bits involved, how much are these, can they be sharpened, and how long do they last before needing to be replaced?

This rock drill repeatedly pounds and turns to create holes. It is powered by an air compressor and requires 115 CFM to operate. It does use bits to create the holes, please see the bits we offer for this rock drill below. These bits are carbide so they cannot be sharpened. The life of the bits depends on how they are being used. They will need to be replaced once they become dull and are no longer breaking rock.

Additional drill rods?
The equipment can drill a 2" hole, 18ft deep. You only show a 24" and 48" long rod for the type H bits. What are the part numbers for other "extension rods"? I'm drilling 12" deep holes in 8 - 10ft of water.

For the type H bits, the 24" and the 48" are the only long rods available from Northern at this time.

looking for a drill to break up granite rock on a compressor. will this work?

This unit would not work for this job. This unit is for digging holes for dynamite. I would recommend a pavement breaker such as item #404769 or #9992401 for this job.
