Oil particles are larger than water particles, so if you already had a water filter but are still getting oil in the lines, that's a strange case. a 5 micron filter like this one will remove some oil and very little water (if any), it's a .01 micron coalescing filter that you need to remove the rest of the oil and some more water, and then to truly remove water, you need some kind of air dryer (dessicant ones work better, and are cheaper, than refrigerated ones). I'm buying this 5 micron filter to pre-filter the air as it makes its way to my .01 micron coalescing filter, and then onwards to my dessicant dryer.

It is recommended to have at least 20ft of piping between the compressor tank and the filter to allow the air to cool and moisture to condense before getting to the filter.

A mounting bracket for the filter is not offered through Northern Tool.

The lifetime of this filter will vary depending on the application. Examples of variables which would affect the life expectancy of this filter would be, but not limited to: amount of water in the line, amount of contaminants in the line, quality of air, and volume of air.

This filter primarily removes dust, particles, and liquid contaminants that plug small orifices and affect tool performance or cause excessive wear and premature equipment failure. To remove significant amounts of water from the line you would need to use a refrigerated air dryer.
