  2. is this a good choice for a farm?

    will it be able to weld thick enough metal? will it weld at all if it is a little rusty or dirty??if i had a 1/2 think piece of metal if i went really slow would i be able to weld it??

    1. Hello ndhunter,
      To answer your question, if you want to weld 1/2" metal, it will do it, but will require you you to make a couple of passes to be safe. Yes you want to go nice and slow. Now if the metal is a little dirty or rusty, you should attempt to remove it with a wire brush, just good housekeeping regardless of what welder you use. I have a small farm with older equipment and the Hobart 187 is my choice of weapons. I can use it in the shop or or it is light enough to throw in the truck and take to the field and run with a generator. I hope this helps you out.

    2. This welder will weld 24 gauge metal up to 5/16" thick only. If the correct type of wire is used, it will weld rusty or dirty metal. For welding metal that is 1/2" thick, may we suggest viewing the welder shown below.

  3. Item description indicates that this welder can do aluminum. However, I can find no information on which spool gun is associated with this machine.

    1. Hobart has a great forum on their website. I have been reading some of the threads. Even though this welder says it can do Al, the general consenus from the forums is you need something with more power like the 210 for Al.

    2. This Hobart Handler has an optional spool gun for aluminum. It is our item #1646190, which is Hobart model 3035-20, see item below.
